Not out of tapes *quite* yet (for Rafal)...
...but here are some pics with their ears down. The boys are teething right now, so it makes those ear tips extra wiggly after a few hours of being untaped. Hopefully in just a few short months they'll be 100% ready to go!

For perspective, Murdock & Zeke turned 16 weeks old on Tuesday, and now weigh 57 lbs & 56 lbs, respectively. :D
LOVIN' these Danes!

I'm confused, you said "here are some pictures with their ears down" but yet they are all pointing straight up. And where does the tape come into play? Are their ears literally taped down?

It is a confusing bit of terminology when you're not familiar with this taping procedure. Here is a picture Kara posted earlier that shows the ears posted. (Soft posts are taped into the ear to help it form into the proper shape).

So when you take the tape off the ears, it's referred to as taking the posts down.
I did this with my doberman, and although it's a bit of a chore to maintain, it doesn't bother the dogs at all. My dog would act like the world was coming to an end when she had to get her nails trimmed....but sat quietly and as patient as a pup could sit when getting her ear posts taken down and put back up again.

Wow, they are looking sweeeeeeeeeeeet Kara :gj: :gj: Beautiful dogs and their ears are looking very good!!!!!

Thank you all, SO much! The Danes are such fun dogs...we really, really love having them in our lives. :)
Judy - your explanation of posting was perfect! :D My boys are both drama queens over their nails, too. I swear they give Ryan & I the hairy eyeball whenever we break out the Dremel. ;)

Awesome! Be careful leaving their posts out for extended periods of time ... any type of falling will not help and intolerance with ear posts may develop. That is what happened to my dane, she had great ears and after a while she started to get less tolerant of her posts and she would scratch her ears up trying to rip them out :( She was fine getting them put in but afterwards would shake her head and scratch. It got to the point where she shook her posts out because she shook her head so hard. I didn't want to chance her hurting herself. Now her ears don't stand up :(
I'm sure you know this already, but it never hurts to share an experience.

Thanks Jessica! So far we've been very fortunate with posting. The longest they've had their ears down is about 12 hours, and the past couple of times we've untaped them, it's just been the ear tips that get a little bit wiggly. Both boys have really nice ear leather & are extremely tolerant of the whole posting process, and I fully credit their breeder with making their initial transition from cups to posts such a smooth one for them. :)

Wow they look awesome! Great job on those ears! It's so nice to see some danes with their ears done! I had to post my dobie for six months since she was show cropped and her ears stayed soft for so long. I'm guessing it will take some time with those boys. If Athena's ears were at all floppy after a few days to a week, they went right back up for a week.
I also have to add that the vet that cropped their ears did a fantastic job. I can see a nice devil's tip on the fawn, and I think I can see a decent one on the brindle, but the angle of the picture is hard to tell. That's not an easy feat!
Have you posted ears before?

Stephanie,
Thank you so much! We're REALLY happy with how their ears are turning out so far. The vet they went to is extremely well known in the Midwest for ear crops (PM me - you probably know who it is), and our breeder/mentor has been working with him for quite some time on all of her dogs.
It's been about 15 years since I've posted ears, and it's my husband's first go-round. The method our breeder/mentor uses is somewhat different than what I've done in the past, but the results have been very consistent & this way we're on the same page with her as far as method goes, when we have questions, etc.
If you have any additional suggestions or pointers, I'm all...ears! ;)
Thanks again!
K~

It looks fairly similar to how I posted Athena's ears, they look so cute with posts :P

It looks like you are doing a great job so I'm sure you don't need any tips on posting. Just don't give up! IMO, not to insult anyone, if the ears don't stand it's the owners fault. Don't give up on posting, keep at it and they will stand. A dog with bad cropped ears is doomed if it ever ends up in a shelter god forbid. IMO don't crop if you aren't up for the work. People have told me I was a bad careless owner for owning a dog with cropped ears, but in reality cropped ears are a heck of a lot of work and makes you a devoted owner!

It is nice to see! They no longer are allowed to do ears and tails where I am dobermans and danes look kinda funny with floppy ears and monster whip tails.
