    new bp question(new here also)
I bought a few juvies at daytona sunday, set them up in a rack with hides and water bowls, and correct temperature(91 on hot side,82 on cool side ,check with temp gun),i noticed today that three out of the five i purchased has soiled there racks(cleaned imediately)now i notice that theyare very active(constantly searching)is this just exploring their new surrounding or could they possibly be hungry this soon?
    thanks in advance.

btw,i seem to have misplaced my humidity gauge so not sure of the humidity, but the sides of the tubes has moisture on them so i am assuming the humidty is high.

Hi, I don't know whether they are hungry or not - maybe someone else can chime in on at that but regarding the condensation on the tub - that is not a good thing - you need to add more holes to the tubs to let more air flow in.

Too high humidity that causes condensation will lead to illness.

    Welcome!

Ya high humidity mike that isn't good and u need to.bring it down a lot. Stress from moving and the new environment can cause them to be active like that. They could be hungry but they may or may not eat it. I would just leave them alone and quiet and feed them on the weekend. By the end of the week u should see them in their hides more and more.

Yea, sounds like they are just checking things out and a little stressed with the new home. Get your humidty down and let them alone for a week. Some people suggest you leave them alone until they eat at least one time but I left mine alone for a week and that seems to have chilled them out.

thanks ,i have about 30 holes (drilled 10 more after reading the first reply)in a 6 quart tube,is there anything else i can do to get the humidity down.
I have the water bowl on the cool end.

If the humidity is still too high after you drilled the additional holes - you could also try to use a smaller water dish - they don't need to be able to soak in their dish - just big enough to drink out of.

The humidity number can read high just as long as you don't have that condensation dripping down the walls of the tub.

    Hope this info helps.

the condensation is actually only in the front of the tub near the water bowl, the rear of the tube near the hot spot doesnt have any condensation, buying a new meter to read the humidty this week end(think i left the one i bought in daytona in the rental car:()

ok i think i am not reading the temp correctly.
If i read the heat tape it reads 95(probe directly on the tape)
if i read the tube were the heat tape is it read 88
if i read the front of the tube away from the tape it reads 81
    does that sound correct.
i drilled more hole and the condensation has gone away(getting a gauge to check humidty tomorrow after work),but could that also be making the tubes not hold heat well, the thermostat is set at 95
    I have a pe1 temp gun(could i be using it wrong)point,press and hold button,read temp

I would lower your temp to 90 on the hot side.

Also, if you only have condensation on the front wall you should be okay... Lowering the heat will probably help but 95 is a bit too hot. Some bps may like it hot but most don't as far as I have heard.

but when i read the inside of the tube where the hot spot is it reads 88

Oh I missed that. Well if you are getting that with a temp gun consistently, that should be fine.

Relax, it sounds like you're off to a good start. Just give them some time to settle in and get used to the new digs.

    So, where's the pics? :D

When mine first poop in there tub they will roam a little or at least switch to a different hide for a while. They don't like the poop :)

What is the ambient temperature of the room you have the cage in? If there is a big difference in temperatures, this could be causing the condensation. Just a possibility...

got a new humidity meter today and it reads 65-70%(but all the condensation is gone)switched to smaller water bowls.
And good news all five of them ate today 1 hopper mice apiece(local store didnt have rat fuzzies)snatched the food up as i put it in the box(fed them in a box not in thier enclosure)
was a little worried about the spider, looked like he had a little trouble constricting it,but he managed.

Thanks all for the good advice,me and my bp's appreciate it.

If sides of tub are moist, you need to provide more ventilation. You dont want it too humid.

the sides of the tubes are dry now, since i drilled more holes, but the humidity still reads 65-70%

Re: new bp question(new here also)
It is my understanding that it isn't so much the number you are getting - just be sure you have no condensation.

I have a tub right now that is reading 70% humidty but there is no condensation - so I was told to not worry about it.

    Hopefully this is correct.
