    Lab style rat tubs
I love the lab style rat tubs Big Apple sells:http://www.bigappleherp.com/Big-Apple-Rodent-Cages
But I'm not crazy about Big Apple and their crazy shipping prices. Does anyone know any other place that sell similar style rodent tubs?

I will be honest you are better off building a rack even if small because at $48 a cage (the one suitable for rats is the last most expensive one) it will be very costly as you will need at least one for breeding and one to have your rats once weaned (and that size won't a allow you to keep many of them for very long in it either) you might need another one if you separate your breeder as well.

For $96 (Price of two of those cages) you can have 6 tubs with the watering system on it too :gj:

I already have 2 of the large (21-3/4 x15-3/8 x7-7/8") tubs and love them.

    Worth the money imho.

I'm looking to get at least one more.

The only thing I think could improve them would be if the tub itself was clear plastic, so I can keep an eye on what going on inside. I've seen pictures of lab style tubs with clear tubs but I can't find any vendors.

Does anyone know any other place besides Big Apple that sells lab style rodent tubs?

I have the rat size from Reptile Basics. They are just big enough for a female and her litter. I have been keeping them in there for the first 10-16 days to reduce the stress. It's been working fine but a rack with watering system is easier.

The only reason I picked them up was because I paid the "show" price. I would never purchase them at Big Apple prices or even at Rich's online price.

RBI unfortunately just sells the small tubs, the large ones I have though are great and worth the money IMHO.

Just wish I could find some other places that sell them.

That's the wrong size. The size he wants is $98.

Well Adam, sounds like you heart set on getting one. I hope it works out for you. If we were closer I'd sell you mine. :P

fauna classifeids has them used all the time and they usually sell cheap.
my buddy gave me the ones i have and they worked great until i built my rack...
i will never go back, rack is the best thing ever.
they wrok great if your only breeding a few rats though. less stink with a rack as well. ammonia builds up quick in the small tubs.

Been running the numbers and for the price I'd pay per tub for these I could get a single level of a Freedom Breeder Rack. So think I'm just going to save up and go that route.

Thank you everyone for the awesome suggestions!

You should've posted this a couple of months ago..
I just sold about 400 of the big rat sized ones, in great shape for $20-25 a piece....

You're always better finding them used, they go for 1/3 the new price. I still have tons of mouse labs that just sit around in storage. One day maybe I'll get off my lazy arse and try to sell them.

Is this close to what you're looking for?

I try to stay away from looking for feeder products on reptile store sites. It's like wedding stuff. Jack up that price!

Try a search for some lab supply auctions too. There's usually many rat "racks" for sale at decent prices, and you might luck onto a pile of those single cages for cheap.

    Good luck!
