If your snake has mites, you will probably see little black dots moving, usually around the face and eyes. Also check in the water bowl for little black specks. Look very closely because they can be hard to see. If you think you might have them, switch out any wood substrate for paper towels and they'll be a lot easier to spot...

When I saw them on a snake, they were little black beads that were crawling between the scales, some were embedded and just stayed between scales. I've never seen them in an enclosure but I've heard they are black specks found in the water dish..etc.

i found a couple white things crawling on him physically but i got them off and have not seen them since however i did notice 2 or 3 brownish black ones inside of one of the hides how ever i did not see and thing that was brown or black crawling on him im worried. i cleaned out the entire enclosure and switched to paper towels but i can not get the paper towels to stay in place he constantly moves them any suggestions?

Paper towels won't really stay in place. It's more frustrating to us than it is to them...

Buying PAM can never hurt....especially if you are unsure. I know I wouldn't want any kind of bugs in my enclosures...mainly because I don't want bugs in my house

Another thing, if it is mites, make sure that you take out all his decorations. If they're wood, bake them, everything else bleach overnight to drown the darn things. :)

Definitely mites..they are sitting in one of the depressions on some paper towel, to give you some reference to size. I just used the macro lens to take the pic.

I know what ticks look like. These are adult, blood engorged, and somewhat flattened (because I wiped them out of the water bowl) snake mites. They can get up to about 1.3 mm.

Those are ticks, my horses get them in the ears due to putting their heads in the woods. When they are first attached they are small and not blood engorged.

I may be the new guy round here...but I can confidently say all the above pics, are in fact mites!

They are Arachnids, just like ticks, and eat blood, just like ticks!

The above pic that are in question, show mites at their fullest level of engorgement!

If they are white they could just be wood mites. Zoo - med mite spray kills those very quickly.
