What are the things you do to suppress the urge to buy a another snake :-)

Well, technically for the last few months I have been ball crazy. Everyday, I am here at BP.net, in a Day I probably spend 2-3 hours spread out just reading and checking out photos on the net.

My wife's tolerance meter is almost on the limit :-)

But we just cant get enough, even if there is no budget, I still try to find a way to get it.. Man this is how it feels to be addicted :-)

So what do you guys do to help get your mind off from buying snakes?

Ball Pythons here in the Philippines are crazy expensive and I bought 5 this year, the first normal one escaped :-( The second spidey, I sold just a few days ago, the third, MJ my pastel hatchling, the fourth DOT my new female normal and last, the bee who I paid for but hasnt arrived yet.

The crazy thing is, I want more!!!! :-(

Trying to sell some old gadgets now lol!

What I usually do in such a situation is buy another snake (or two). Doctors have been trying to figure out a cure for this addiction for almost 20 years now but with no success. :D

When I want to get another I just sit in a quiet spot & travel in time (in my head of course). Watching my wife :rage: & me sleeping on the couch for a month. It usually gets me off the computer rather quickly & doing something else to get my mind off it.

It is hard though I bought 5 this year. I was given a max limit of 3. HAHA! So I feel you on the addiction part.

When it's guitar related, this sickness is called G.A.S. (Gear Acquisition Syndrome)...And I'm a proud patient...



I really hope that this wont happen to me with snakes (but chances are, it will) :oops:

I used to suffer from G.A.S. quite often;)
With snakes I just look at the space and money I don't have.

Python Acquisition Syndrome..but we can't PAS.

Well,
1) I locate a place in my room,
2) I put a set up there,
3) I get another!

Sometimes I go step 3, 1, 2.

I told myself last time that I couldn't afford another. And then I realized I was selling three babies that I was paying to feed. So now I can afford three more! ha

I remind myself that I don't want to end up not being able to take care of all my animals and end up having to surrender or rehome them. I don't want to acquire too many that I can't properly feed, house and keep them all healthy. The animals welfare has to come before my satisfaction.

Well I use to give the gf the debit card but then I memorized the numbers
So I order a new card but the I made a booboo of linking that card to pay pal and I thought well if I don't get on the computer I won't see anything I want so then I can't buy anything WRONG!!! Paypal has an app and KS is on my main screen on my fone so right now my rack being full is stopping me untill next month when I expand

For right now it's really just the money that's stopping me, next its the wife and kids that I have to think of.

I just really need 4-5 more and I think I will be good. (NOT!)

I have simple wants:
Pied Pair
1 black pastel
Axanthic Pair.
For now...

And thats just for BPs
I also want:
1 GTP :-)
1 Jackson Chameleon :-)
1 Pueblean Milk Snake :-)
2 More Female Bearded Dragons :-)

oh I would love a Burm or GTP (among my favorite kind of snakes)

But, since they are Illegal here in PR, that makes the decision easier for me! (and their size)

oh man... please we need a cure for this!! i just got myself a queen bee! burned a deep hole in my wallet

How do I suppress the urge to buy a snake...
...by buying a different snake. :D

I have a really long list of snakes I want...and then it extends to lizards and (now) inverts and all sorts of stuff (including a fennec fox - thanks slashmaster)...

Wow. I was thinking about this to myself today. I'm on this forum everyday and on craigslist looking for more snakes. I even stopped by the pet store today to see if they had any ball pythons. It is getting out of had. But one thing I think about before buying another is "how will i pay for rent"

i wanted a albino but thought they are to expensive so i got two 100% het albinos that im going to breed in 3 years to make my own :D

Haha! A pair of hets just a few years ago would have been more than what albino's are selling for today. :P

I've always liked "some assembly required". :D

Rack space is stopping me and i only need 3 more snakes anyways... a girlfriend from my borneo and a het pied male and a black pastel het ghost(any sex) (want my own ghost black pastels) now the hard part will be hatchlings... and keeping the best (or all) from a clutch haha. Just have so many ideas for combos and genetics... have lovely genetics running around here... must use them to full capacity right?

Somehow accidentally bought a pair of red bloods (coming in this morning) not compatible with the borneo.. ooppss... hence needing a girlfriend for him. He was a total impulse buy at a reptile expo from NERD, from Kevin actually (see had to buy something from him!). He was the most chill snake I had ever met. Reptile expo next week....

.....going to need another rack....

lol it simple no money, It cost me about 100 bucks per trip to see the girlfriend, so with little to no extra money I don't see her as much as like and I can only dream of snakes

shoot...simple...

dont have the money or the extra cage.

but god help me when my mojo girl outgrows her current terrarium & i get her into her adult one...
then i'll have an empty cage to contend with...:tears: :weirdface

It's real easy answer for me. I just look at my checkbook and bank account...BINGO no more snakes.

We just started building our herp family. We have a "limit" of one snake per year. This year, though, when we got the fever, we ended up with a tarantula.

Now with 8 snakes, no space to house anymore (don't use racks). And 8 mice a week is the limit. Cant afford to feed anymore.

Knowing your limit..I like that! Nothing wrong with having a limit and knowing and sticking to it..Keeps you sane.

in the process of buying a house so all my money is going into savings. thats keeping me from buying snakes ans unfortunately from doing anything right now

I run out of money! Seriously.

I had to promise my husband I wouldn't buy anymore snakes for 2 years. Which is keeping me out of calicos and sugars, which I guess is fine. And now I'm actually making snakes myself, so the numbers are still going up. But man, I really need some better males....

i recently acquired a bearded dragon to help with the urge. its helping but every time i walk into the reptile room i realize wow im missing something.

Nothing when I have the urge I just satisfy it, also when work on your own projects and hatch your own stuff the urge tend to be more under control ;).............kinda :rolleyes:

See that's why I keep kind of thinking about breeding because I could use the money I make to put back into the snake. That way they'd pay for themselves!

Of course if I managed to produce an axanthic bee it'd be going nowhere.

I'm a big fan of setting limits. While I am in school, I know I can't handle many more than I have now (6). So, when I want to get something new or keep something from a clutch, I usually make myself find another to sell or rehome. It can get really hard, but usually my emotional attachment to my current snakes keeps me from going hog wild! Still, I suspect I will be up to 8 or so before I am actually finished.

That's easy , my wife , she said no more until she gets to get something for herself(not herp related). Trust me, she's Italian, Greek, and Portuguese, you don't want to tick her off! lol.

I told myself when I bought my first two I wouldn't get any more until I had my first clutch hatch. Hopefully with some pastaves I'll be able to trade or get extra money for one of the two hundred or so projects bouncing around in my brain :D

Nothing works for me:colbert: When I run out of room, I build more racks. when I run short on food, I build more rat racks. I have a serious problem. I just bought a snake that I did not need and have a incubator full of eggs. This weekend I plan to ???? Build more racks.

They keep me out of trouble because I don't have time to do anything else!

I'd have to say anything less than jamming a pencil into each eye will do nothing to lessen the urge...just my 2 cents! haha.

When the urge is so overwhelming to go out and get another bp, I just get another T instead, lol.

Being dirt poor is enough to stop me from buying more!

Hello everyone! Thought I would introduce myself and my problem to see if you can help...

Well, I have been bitten big time by the ball python bug.... my one visit to a breeder at the reptile show only 6 months ago as turned into: .1 Carmel Albino, 1.0 100% Het Caramel Albino, 1.0 bumble bee , .1 pastel, 1.1 normals, .1 possible Het Pied, 1.1 Fires, .1 Green Tree Python. Our room that used to be for the dogs now houses several snake racks and I look at kingsnake classified almost everyday. I am planning on adding to my collection soon to include Lavender Albino, Pied female, and possibly Black Pastel. Seriously what is happening to me....PLEASE HELP :please:

This gets me on a regular basis! Lucky, I buy at good prices and usually sell to get the next "needed" piece...or not.

After I received my bumblebee today, the urge has been suppressed. Let's see how long this will last :) What I am scared of is I had a custom built glass snake rack made for 4 snakes and I only have 3 :) the last can be used as a spare tank when cleaning but so can my spare tubs :) lol!

Even if I find a good deal online with all the supplies included I usually just ask my girlfriend and that takes care of it lol.
