Fancy pants rats :)
Here's just a few shots of some of the babies that I've started making. I was originally lucky enough to get my colony starters from our very own snakesRkewl (Jerry). I'm really into rat keeping. It's a great hobby and I provide top notch food for my snakes. I determine the quality of my food supply :) It's win win all the way around. I have about 8 litters currenly and a few more dropping by the weekend. Perfect staggering going to keep a steady food supply.

I love the rats a lot. Not easy to feed them off. I spend quite a bit of time with mine too. Super friendly smart little critters :)

Good looking litters Brian, I'm happy they took off so well for you :gj:
All those cuties and a dwarf on top of it, swingggg.
Make sure to keep track of which females are het dwarfs, you'll curse yourself down the road if you don't ;)

Congrats.......................... its a lot easier if you name them, bacon, sausage, kibble, and so on, you get the idea:D

Nice, how long have you been breeding now? Was it difficult to get started?

I've been going for about 3 months now. I was lucky to get some killer starters for my colony from our own snakesRkewl (Jerry). He has some of the coolest rats around. The biggest thing that makes this doable is the racks. If I hadn't built the rat racks I think the workload would be immense. It makes things so easy to have nice racks. Aside from the time I spent with the rats, cleaning, feeding, and watering doesn't take much time at all with a setup like this. Racks are the key to my success. I'm not going to lie about it :)

I can tell you this is soooooo true!!!!!
I spend less time with my 6 trios in a rack then I did with 3 trios in tanks;)

Racks make breeding rats much much easier.
I can clean my 5 space rack in the same time it took to clean one large two story wire rat cage :)

DIY Rat Rack
Here's my whole DIY thread with pics and cut specs and prices near the end. I think it was total about $80 for a 6 bin rack. I built two of them and have the parts to build another once I'm done painting my houses exterior.

I could not agree with you more... I always say that one of the best things about keeping snakes was `discovering` rats.
Sweet, socialable and interesting animals. I loved keeping rats as a hobby (I stopped feeding live because of it).
Deathly allergic to the little rotters unfortunately, and after several ER visits for a comprised respitory system I had to abandom keeping them. My last two hairless passed about 8 months back.
Really nice looking colony you have and some very sweet looking babes. Love the diverscity of what one female can throw in a litter. :)

Thanks for the kind words Bruce! I think I might be allergic to them myself. I've had the worst summer of allergies since I started keeping them. I'm hoping the cooler weather helps a bit. At this point the only days I don't have some sinus congestion are the days where it is cool, humid, or raining.
