Baby Cages - What do you use?

I'm looking forward to breeding and haven't bought baby cages yet. I'd like to get some ideas about what's working for everyone. Besides the cages, what kind of heat and humidity source? I sure would appreciate some ideas. I'll need space for about 20. Nice looking would be a plus since it will be in the living room.......... Thanks! :)

I used 4L size Really Useful Box (sold in Staples). They come in cute colors to match your living room. I just put them side-by-side on a shelf with heat tape.

I looked at pictures, nice! How do you maintain humidity? What about air? Do you poke holes in the lid?

6qt hatchling tub rack. I wouldn't put any balls in cages, especially babies.

Hatchling rack, 6Qt tubs. For humidity, I run a humidifier in my snake room 24/7 set on automatic. Heat is included in the rack. If you are looking for something to use in the living room, I would suggest a rack, rather than individual tubs or bins.

Tubs are superior in every way and easier to keep husbandry proper.

Babies especially those needed to be started will do very poorly in a cage, risking it to make very hard if not impossible for you to start them.

You will find out that breeders (small and big) use very tight enclosure generally 6 quarts tubs for their hatchlings.

Oh, I was using the word "cage" generally. I didn't mean to exclude tubs. I've been considering racks with tubs. What do you mean by "very tight"? I saw a rack at a show where the tubs seemed to slide out very easily, I would call that loose, but the seller assured me that the snake couldn't push the tub out of the rack. How long can a baby live in 6 quarts? :)

Rubbermaid models 2218 and 2221

The 2218 is a 6qt for Hatch-lings
The 2221 is a 28qt for anything outgrowing the 2218, You typically would keep females in this until they are about 1500-1800 grams and then move them up to a bit bigger of a tub like 41 qt. You could keep adult females in the 28 qt tubs, but it doesn't give them that much room to be themselves. I'd personally choose to lose a few tubs in the rack for a ball python that will get to stretch out a bit more in a bigger tub.

Im not sure which model Rubbermaid has that's close to 40qt.

By "very tight" she means small. Babies do better with limited space, bigger scares them.

x2. When I got my two normals, I had them in too large of tubs, and the one refused to eat (although the other was a hog and ate a ton). I switched them to tubs half the size of the ones that they were in and they both ate as soon as I dropped the mouse in each tub.

Good info! Whatever I get, I'd like the ability to use some different sizes. :rolleyes:

I use 6qt hatchling rack with heat tape :gj:
