Worst BP problem ever?!

So, whats the worst thing you've had to deal with with your BP? Mites? Stuck tape? RIs? Runaways? How did you resolve your issue? I am a worrier by nature, and this thread is going to make me nuts, but I am interested in other peoples experiences.

So far I've had two problems with my BPs. The first one, my pastel yb 50% het pied wouldn't eat for 2 months. As she is the most expensive snake currently in my collection this was pretty stressful for me, even though I know it happens. She's a 2010 and it took me 3 trys to get her to start eating when I got her and then she only ate 4 times before her 2 month fast. Again, I know it's pretty normal, but I really wanted her to eat. :P She eventually started eating again though and has been pretty good about for the past few weeks.

The second problem I had was a major one. My butter went missing and I wasn't sure if she was even still in my apartment. I lost a lot of sleep over the course of the week from staying up late trying to find her. It did take a week before she turned up and then I found her it was pretty horrible. She had gotten herself stuck to a sticky rat trap that my apartment puts under our sinks every year. Half her head was stuck to it and her mouth was open. I was terrified she was dead, but it turns out she was fine. A little bit of cooking oil and she came off pretty easy. She's been doing great since and still hasn't missed a meal. :)

Those are the worst/only problems I've encountered so far.

The most annoying issue I have is that my BPs seem to wait until I spend an hour cleaning tubs before they have to go to the bathroom. Most of the time they go the day after I clean. >_<

Escape is the worst thing to deal with next to death. Other things can be treated for the most part but nothing helps with dealing witha lost snake.

And with that, you just have to be really patient. They eventually will come out for either food or water.

Worse i ever dealt with was Mites on the Burm I had... the snake was also a rescue and was extremely under weight and rather moody as a result of the 2. my BP had a very mild case of mouth rot once but I cleared that up easily.

as far as the mites and underweight on the burm that took lots of TLC and serious dedication. soakings everyday, cleaning the pen out every other day, and treating everything that went in or out of its enclosure. Additionally extreme quarantine process. I had it in a separate room, on a separate floor of the house, and would disinfect then shower right after entering the quarantine room. I declared full out war and used every anti mite product i could find.

Worst thing that has happened to me is that Jaxx took a big nasty dookie in the top level of his fountain and it made the water stream bounce off of it and all out over the substrate. So I had to change it so it didn't get moldy. That's it. I have been lucky so far. (Knocks on wood)

My snakes were doin great, then a couple days after visiting a pet shop, they had mites. That was kind of a pain, but the care is very basic..spray them with the stuff, and change the substrate to paper towels. This showed me the value in using papertowels as substrate, and I've actually kept that as my sub. of choice ever since. Not very aesthetically pleasing, but hey are in racks anyways.

I consider myself very lucky that this is all that I've had wrong.

Well...I had one or two go off feed for a real long time (they weren't sickly though), so I took them to the vet, and they gave them an appetite stimulant. It works great, actually.

Ive dealt with an albino burm and a ball python having RI but got a vet check up for medication. Ive had a few bps brought in with mites but used PAM. Ive had a female bp brought in with the beginnings of scale rot on her belly from being kept on moist pine!! grrr! I got her washed up with baby shampoo then it went away in her next shed. Ive dealt with my pastel being lost for 2 days and my caramel albino female being lost for 3 days then a week the second time. Ive dealt with a hidden virus wiping out my 3 adult female ball pythons...Ive dealt with a female bp brought in with scabs over half of her spine from rat bites, got her a vet check up and she got a shot in case of infections then they healed over. Ive dealt with snakes not eating at all for 4 months at a time....I think the only thing I havent dealt with is mouth rot......yeah....horrible couple of years

my WORST thing issue i had was my wife went in the snake room and moved some stuff around. she placed the space heater right up against my rack and cooked 4 adult females. 2 more that got heated up but didnt die and have yet to produce for me.

2nd worst thing was i bought a snake off kingsnake and it came in with a respitory infection. it was the most i ever spent on a snake(at the time) and after vet bills medication and the snake itself i was out 700 bucks and it still died.
seller refused to do anything about it so i got screwed.

Worst: My younger snake got into a piece of carpet tape... now if you have ever used that stuff, it's like crazy glue. It bonds instantly and is VERY hard to get off. After I was finished panicking, I used a Q-tip and baby oil to loosen the adhesive and it slid right off without any damage to her. Phew. That was almost 2 years ago now.

The worst BP problems I've dealt with are the burn rescues I've taken in.

The worst thing I have ever dealt with is an escapee and my male normal going off feed. It is not fun when a snake escapes or goes off feed. I have since learned two valuable lessons, make the sure the enclosure is secure and just have patience when they go off feed.

I've dealt with escapees, mouth rot, Ris, burns, rat bites, abcesses, Scale rot, a male whom went off feed for a year, a new male who is getting force fed weekly because he's a baby and went on a 2 month feeding fast. Grrrrr. Hmmm I'm sure I've dealt with so much more. I just can't remember. I rescue them from people whom never cared, fix em up and rehome them to homes that will love them the rest of their lives. But taking in rescues has actually given me a wonderful plethora of knowledge in case my own collection should ever have any issues. I have most meds on hand now bc my vet figured out that I was going to take his job one day. Since there's only 1 in the state I'm thankful I have learned enough to get his opinion If needed but mostly treat at home. The biggest issue I've dealt with in my personal collection is 2 Ris, and non feeders.

Keep in mind that alot of these issues come from poor husbandry or bad equipment. Always get the best equipment, always qt, and always make sure you can handle husbandry. Healthy/happy snakes= snakes that have a good immune system.

I feel your pain. This exact thing happened to me as well!!! Only, mine came off fauna in a trade. She also infected another snake in my qt. She died and he lived but still has Resp. problems. And I had a very very large stack of vet bills.

The thing about dealing with the worst of the worst issues is that then you can handle anything 'cause you've "done it before". Looks like you've had a lot of experience with keeping your babies healthy!
