Does Feeding Day Ever Get Old?
I fed 4 snakes tonight. And I was just as excited to see them eat as the first time my first snake ate. And I am disappointed when some of them take the rat in their hide to swallow so I can't see it.
Does feeding day ever get old for you guys that have 10's and 100's of snakes?

Re: Does Feeding Day Ever Get Old?
I don't have hundreds of snakes - feeding day might be a different situation if I did! For me, though, it hasn't gotten old - and they can still make me jump when they pounce! :O
-
After thousands of feedings it never gets old, I love having well fed snakes
-
Yes.. with close to 200 snakes to feed every week..it becomes a chore.

wow 200?? That must take all day? do you feed live or f/t (mind if I ask?) I love watching mine but I only have 12 bp. I enjoy knowing they are eating and growing and being healthy.
-
Yup! I "only" have a dozen bps, and it can be pretty painful. Especially when I've got somebody who hasn't eaten in 5 months and won't even give a live mouse the time of day. Or when I've thawed 9 rodents and nobody wants the last 3, and I don't want to waste them. So I spend an hour dangling them in front of apathetic snakes, and wind up throwing 2 of them out anyway...
-
It does with my bigger guy. He likes to, ahem, savor the moment, and sometimes I just want him to finish up already so I can go to bed.

i hear that. lol i have 6 sitting down stairs right now that are gonna go to waste if soemthing doesnt change tonight. everybody ate except these four and these 6 are for 4 snakes that are usually good eaters.. so if that doesnt work im going to try and pawn them off on some of my big fattys that i know will take a second meal. but to answer the question... YES it gets old haha but everytime i get a new snake to eat that is always fun.. it makes feeding time at least a little enjoyable

Re: Does Feeding Day Ever Get Old?
Nope, never, I usually feed at least 4 of my 5 on feeding day, and I still get just as excited when they strike :D I agree that when they have trouble finding the head so they can start eating it does get a bit frustrating, but as soon as it gets to the actual swallowing part, I'm still just as fascinated as I was the first time my first snake ate.
But I'm sure with 200 to get through it's a different story...

AT LEAST I've never had anybody kill a live mouse and then get bored with it and refuse to eat it, and after I've made a special trip out to Mesa to buy it, too. I have a friend who feeds about 50/50 frozen vs. live, and this happens to her all the time.
(I've actually noticed the babies are my best eaters. My 1 year-olds eat like clockwork, and then sit around hoping the big mamas won't eat so they can have third and fourth helpings. Doesn't help if I'm left with a rat that's bigger than they are, but they're handy little mouse garbage disposals.)

I love feeding f/t but I cringe when I have to feed live rats to the two problem snakes.

yeah im about 50/50 on f/t vs live and it sucks when the ones that eat live are being picky.. like the ones i was describing above lol and i just tried again but its still a no go so there goes 3 hours of my night. and at least one in the morning.. if that doesnt work the mice are getting thrown into the big girls

i've only got 2 snakes, but each feed is fun to watch - every time..
-
I have 12 BPs and 11 other snakes. Feeding day takes about 3 hours total for me and I love it.
Not a chore for me at all :)
-
Most of the time it feels like a chore, though I do still love watching em snatch and grab!
-
Yes... It takes me a good 3-4 hours to feed, check, move and adjust rodents and feeding flow.
But when an animal eats, its always a relief and a pleasure.
-
Not for me but i only have 3 so far. and today is feeding day!!!
-
Feeding day isn't very exciting for me any more. I feed f/t and most of mine are pretty quick to grab them. Feeding day was never very exciting for me anyways though. My normal used to eat live mice and I'd hate to watch the mouse die. I love my snakes, but I get more joy out of holding them than I do feeding them.

Re: Does Feeding Day Ever Get Old?
I only have two snakes but it can be a pain because my male normal only takes live and my new little girl eats f/t. I go to bed very early in the evening and I usually have to wake up around 10 p.m. to feed my snakes. So once it is all said and done, I am very tired and just want to go back to bed, lol. In case you are wondering why I go to bed so early, my bofyriend works third shift and our sleeping schedules are totally different.
-
I have around 55 right now. Ever growing. I can't say feeding day ever gets old. I always have a couple big mommas that mistake my head for food. Or the plunk, sqeeeeel is always a happy sound for me to hear. It takes me a good couple hours to feed. Most of my snakes are garbage disposals now.
I am just happy when they're eating.
Everyones on live and the biggest pain in my butt is bringing the extras 3 floors down to my basement.

Re: Does Feeding Day Ever Get Old?
Feeding day was just fine at first watching mother nature and a snake stalking his prey. Now I just watch and say come on now so I can move on to the next one, and then I have the rat looking at me as the snake is giving him an over zealous hug saying why...I thought we were buddies!
Now the only time I don't mind is when someone who has never seen this is with me and they are amazed.
-
Feeding day has never and never will get old for me, unlike a lot of people here though, my snake is a pet as I only keep the 1 BP and provide him with a large fancy enclosure. Feeding takes place in a seperate room and tub. I take vids every feeding as well so I can re-watch it throughout the week if I like. They are also posted on my youtube channel for family and friends to watch.
