lemon pastel questions

Well where to start lol. I love pastel combos but I hate browned out pastel with a Passion. From what I've read online and I'm sure some has bad info is that the Orange is what browns on a pastel not the yellow. I like bright yellow and deep blacks on pastel but it seems the only way to do it is buy a lemon from nerd.

They are expensive but you gotta pay to play and that's fine with me. So I went to the nerd site and looked around and I saw Orange lemon pastel and yellow lemon pastel. They say they get brighter with each shed. Is there any actual lemon pastel owners here who purchased from nerd directly? If so can you please post pics of baby and sub adult or adult?

Id hate to spend $350 or more on a pastel just to have it brown out. I like the blushing in pastel but it seems to do that you can't go lemon as most of the pics I've seen have been black and yellow not really any blushing.

Really I want to do here is make the brightest fire fly I can possible. I know the fire should provide some blushing but should also really brighten the yellow and keep it that way. Lemon fire fly pics would just be great too.

I'm starting now to buy supplies before I even think of purchasing a animal. I just don't want to waste time or money here as its gonna be a expensive hobby. Thanks in advance

I have a few pictures of my NERD lemon pastel. She is pretty browned out, but as of yet I don't have a standard pastel to compare her too. She is an '10 and around 500-600g.

As with any pastel, reguardless of the line, they are going to brown out to some degree as they age. Your best bet is to just shop around, find the highest quality, brightest babies and hope for the best. Seeing pics of parents might help too.

For comparison to the above pics, here is our Graziani line pastel. He is a '10 and around the 400g mark. He has retained his color nicely and his blushing has gotten better.

I agree with what everyone said, although the lemon line tends to be brighter as babies (although I have seen some very brown lemons), all pastels will brown out to some degree. Here is my regular plain old pastel, he's a 2010 and pushing 500 grams. He's still quite pretty in my eyes :)

Not sure where you heard any single gene pastels got brighter as they get older, you may be thinking of fireflies (fire pastels), I know they get brighter as they age.

Yeah their backs brown out. But their sides don't really. They look pretty darn sweet if you ask me.
I love pastels more than any other morph.
Idk why but i do.

Just look for the brightest young one you can find.
Most likely he'll keep his color better.

I think she's held color a hell of alot better than he has. But her top is browned out. Her sides still maintain a lovely lemon yellow.

I can't see paying 3 times the price from nerd for a lemon if its just gonna brown out like that, that 2 yr pic was awesome, I wish they would keep that color

Gotta say I'm disappointed with all the hype I've heard about them now, better off just finding the bright and cleanest what ever line I can and not take favorites

If you are willing to buy a $350 hatchling pastel from NERD, you can get an amazing yearling maybe older for a quality pastel that you can visually see getting nice and bright from many breeders, especially at shows. The NERD line has been passed to tons of breeders. I don't believe you need to only go through them to get a great colored pastel.

You can probably even find a yellowbelly pastel for $350 which IMO almost always have amazing dark blacks and bright yellows. I don't think I could ever order a normal pastel online, I would need to see it in person to judge it.

I'm gonna skip the lemon and try to find the most blushed out pastel I can then breed it to a fire or fire fly to clean up those sides and keep the blushing

I'm still searching for my perfect pastel after 2 years.

Want my advise ? Skip the babies. Buy an animal at least 400 grams and 1 year old. Babies can start out really bright and then brown out fast. If you go with one that has some size, you know it will be a better indicator of the quality.

I saw a really nice 2 year old male at my last show, he didn't have much yellow, it was more cream, but he had very little actual brown and a LOT of blushing. If he'd been a she, I'd have snapped it up in a heartbeat.

I agree with angllady. Pastels are one of the easiest morph to acquire, yet one of the hardest morphs to acquire a high quality version. They have become so inexpensive as far as morphs go, anyone and everyone is able to breed them.

I like the 400 gram rule as well. I have yet to buy a pastel because of this reason, I can't find one I like enough to jump on it...

My pastel is pretty nice he has crazy blushing. It is het hypo so i dont know if that has anything to do with it but he is a 2010 baby.
