Goodbye Skittle...:(

Our juvenile Baik GTP Skittle passed away today. :tears:. He had regurged a few meals and I took him to our vet two weeks ago. Our vet looked him over and didn't feel a blockage and felt he looked to be in good condition and maybe the regurges were due to the meal being a bit on the large side. I agreed to do a fecal test and give him a week off of food (at the time he was still interested in eating). After waiting for a week I tried feeding and he refused. Tried again a few days later and he still refused. He never defecated to get a sample in to the vet either. Then today he passed. I hope a necropsy will be able to shine a light on why he suddenly died. :(

You were a beautiful creature and you will be missed little guy. :tears:

Sorry for your loss :( He was a fine example of his species, The silver lining on the cloud in regards to pets dying, is that really they live on forever

you always remember them and you have pictures or better video of them, so they may not be with you physically but they are with you in your memory.

Just got a call from our vet and Skittle was loaded with internal parasites and had internal lesions associated with crypto :tears::rage:. LAST ever pet store pity purchase for me. I have my whole collection on lock down now, so to speak. We haven't even had an RI in our collection for three years let alone something nasty like this. Looking back I should have had a fecal test done JUST to be safe but he was active, eating, no crazy stool issues, basically NO red flags anything was wrong until the first regurge.

Oh no! Will fecals show whether or not its spread to any other animals? Did you get Skittles at Scales n Tails?

Yeah, I can have them tested but I'm good about being clean between messy cages anyway. I'm optimistic about it not spreading. But I'm not bringing in or letting go of any animals for a few months to be certain. And yes, he was from S&T. I called Chad to let him know too.

So sorry for your loss. He was a beautiful boy.

You do have an excellent system and very clean set-up...so I'm confident you have little to worry about. It's just all so sad, and I can only imagine how deeply frustrating. :hug:
