Got my car tinted! Trying out the new Crystalline tint, anyone else have it?
Blake had a few ideas for my b-day gift and this is what I chose. A new snake was a close second of course :P

It's 5% in the back and 70% up front. 70% is the lowest you can go in Iowa, yeah it sucks. I've already been pulled over for illegal tint so my name is in the system and I'm not about to get a $75+ ticket for it.

I just got it done this morning so the front is really foggy. The Crystalline tint is only in the front. It's apparently supposed to work better than the tint in the back as far as UV and heat protection goes. Crazy!

Nice. Have you gotten pulled over just for your tint without committing another violation first? According to the chief of police in my hometown they cannot pull you over just for the tint. I guess if you were going 1 mph over that would be enough to do it though. I haven't looked at tint other than regular before so I didn't even know what crystalline tint was lol.

Yep. The first time was a state trooper, he told me he saw me drive by with tint and anything other than factory is illegal. I know I wasn't speeding because it's a weird spot in my hometown that they changed the speeding zones in and I always go 5-10 under. I couldn't say what the laws are in Iowa, but I'm guessing he had the right since it was noticeably illegal. The second time I got pulled over was for my factory tint-I had already taken the tint off, that time he said, "oh well, you were speeding too", but never told me how much I was speeding or gave me any warnings

I'm guessing it's different in Iowa because my fiance got pulled over in his '72 Monte for tint and he wasn't speeding or anything.

We have the same story here. If you've put aftermarket wheels on, they stop you, if you tint too dark they stop you, if you have a new spoiler kit or wing or any other thing they stop you. If they get you in a road block, and you've changed steering wheels, your fined. They've gone so far as to take away a guys registration disk(Licence disk), because his car was modded.

KZN where I stay is very heavy, although I've noticed that they've slacked off a bit recently, probably because they bit off more than they could chew with a rich dude and an Lancer EVO 8. He got stopped and they took away his disk and arrested him, because they said the wing on his boot was unroadworthy because it obstructs his view. They also impounded his car. Unluckily for them, this car was stock standard and has passed roadworthy here(otherwise Mitsubishi couldn't sell it), so they had to let him go, and he sued!

What car is yours, I must say it looks really good with tinted windows!

Oh my gosh that is insane!!! Way too many rules! It's a VW Jetta, my third Jetta :P

I love the front and the inside. My last Jetta was 11 years old, so this was a big change!

Yep! Stick shifts FTW!!!! To be honest the rules we have are pretty much international standards, it just depends how the traffic cop decides to apply it on the day!

70% ???????? OMG??? In missouri, it was 35%, and I got 30 all around minus windshield... LOL. Never got pulled over.

Too bad you aren't in SW Iowa, as I'm in Nebraska only a hip skip jump and a hop away.

 I have owned one automatic in my life and I sold it 8 months after I got it. I bought this one specifically for the stick and the heated seats.

Definitely! :gj: Those standards seem pretty harsh!

Yeah isn't that insane! I think it's the highest % in the states. I went for 5 years with my tint at 35% in the front, but it seems like they are cracking down because there are a lot of cars in the area with limo tint in back and nothing in front.

No kidding! It's only a 4 hour drive from here :P You have to go to the Des Monies show and meet up with me!!!

The problem we have is that there have been quite a few accidents when the guys do the illegal street racing. Then the cops started Operation 1/4 Mile in Durban, to stop it. They came down hard on modded cars, but after a few embarrassing incidents they've calmed down quite a bit.

The only downside to the car scene here is that a lot of sought after tuning cars like Supra's, Skylines, RX - 7's, and the big American muscle cars didn't come here, so we mod what we can, lol!

Lol. Im not moving where you live that's for sure. I have a cf ti tip hks exhaust that is huge and a nice big wing that varies slightly from sti look. And after market wheels. Etc. Nothing extreme and almost looks just like an sti till you see the cf trunk and cf insert on the wing. I never get pulled over in ne :)

I hope you can! The Des Moines show isn't too shabby! The Chicago show is amazing! That would be an 8 hour trip for you, yikes!

I suppose I could understand the laws if there is a big problem with street racing. Too bad about the muscle cars not making it out your way!

The only one we get is the Chevrolet Lumina SS, which is actually a re-branded Holden Monaro. The first models came with the usual 5.7 V8, but the new models come with the 6.0L motor from the new ,Vettes!

You can get a good 2nd hand one at a good price, which I plan on doing once I'm done studying. There's a few guys here that specialise in supercharging them, they turn into firebreathers! They also turbo or super charge the 350Z. The STI Impreza is very popular here, so is the EVO, lots of people are happy to see hatch back Subaru go. Of course, since the Rand trades at around 7 to 1 with the dollar, in the dollars favour, tuning parts are definitely not cheap!
