    ackies pipping
I am just giving a quick update. The yellow ackie eggs are pipping right now. I see five little heads poking out now, and will post pics as soon as the little ones come out. My wife is so excited and is already staking claim on a few for future groups :)

Its my first clutch from these ackies. I think the big thing to remember is make sure your enclosure can hold 7 to 12 inches of a soil mixture for them to burrow and tunnel. I have about 8 inches in my enclosure, and it seems to be utilized quite frequently by both the male and female.

ive wanted ackies for years. it would be a great pleasure to breed them as wel. i just dont have the room for a large enclosure. my nexy house will have room though. ill make sure of it.
ive always liked kimberly rock monitors as well.

group shot of the 7 that hatched. One other did not make it out of the egg unfortunately, but I guess you can't win them all.

Let me start out with a big congratulations, hatching out any monitor is no small feat.Which leads me to my next point.Using anything less then 12-18 inches of substrate is like playing with fire.Getting monitors to breed is not that hard, getting them to nest is what hinders most people.Monitors need to nest and nest deep.If they do not find a suitable nesting area they will hold the eggs and die. This is the problem we are having with the Indo monitors,no one know what they like.At least with Akies we know.Good luck in the the future and I hope to see many more from you,but remember they like it deep.
