Price question??
I have an opportunity to buy a female pastel lesser het clown for $4500 it's a 2011 just hatched. I haven't seen any for sale so I don't have anything to compare price to. Thoughts? Are there going to be more later this year?
Also would I be crazy breeding to my pastel het clown and not a visual?

Your not crazy at all. Thats a great combo, as long as its 100% het(both yours and the one your considering purchasing.) You could make some super pastel lesser clowns! Those are some steep odds though.
Im not familiar with the pricing though so I cant help you in that aspect.

Re: Price question??
We had a het Axanthic x het Axanthic breeding this year that produced 9 offspring. 6 visual Axanthic and 3 others.
The odds should have been 1 in 4.
Just go to show that odds are another way of saying LUCK!

The odds are what I was talking about. With a $4500 snake, even not having the possibility of the super pastel lesser clown, would the advantage of all babies being hets be better? I also could get a male for $3500, but I have a male.

Re: Price question??
I would get the male for $3,500. You could be breeding him a lot sooner then a female!

Yes. Either way it's a bunch to put down. I think the female will hold/increase in value more though.
-
I'd get the female. By the time she's breeding age the visual clown males should have come down in price and you could buy one for less than it would cost today.
Or you could use your het clown to breed her and if you get lucky have a visual clown male and maybe even one with an additional gene ready to breed back to her in a year or so.
-
Honestly I'd get the male and get a couple sub adult 100% het clown females and maybe a couple 2011 co-dom het females. A little more $$ but a lot more in return. Either way, good luck!

the price is steep but not necessarily out of touch with the market. if i were you, i'd probably pick up the male since you already have a female pastel het clown to breed (at least eventually). the addition of the lesser probably wouldn't change your potential clutch odds all that much if you're primarily looking to produce super pastel clowns. plus you could definitely sell any het clowns next year with minimal drop in value, especially if they're pastels. also with the money saved you could buy a female lesser of breeding size and potentially kick-start the project if you really have your hopes set on a super pastel lesser clown.
either way, best of luck.

It's a fair price for sure, you rarely see double co-dom het clowns around. I'm frankly surprised the male is so much cheaper.
As for what to do.. Yeah if you have the cash to throw down nearly 5 grand on that female, you'd be doing yourself a disservice pairing her with a male that probably wouldn't even fetch $500.
I wouldn't buy that male either unless you were going to pick up some females to pair him with. If you were able to swing it, a visual clown female would pair wonderfully with that male.
You're in the classic position of someone who bought a male before he had a female to go with it. It's hard to be financially optimized in that situation.

Re: Price question??
The price is definitely fair, I've had people quote me 3k for a male lesser het clown. A pastel lesser het clown is worth far more. Whichever one you get, I would definitely consider getting a visual clown to pair with it so you won't have to deal with 66% hets. I'm producing a couple different morph het clowns this year and hoping to use some of the revenue to aquire a female visual clown or two with some size. They are very hard to come by though.

Ok I guess people maybe can't see my signature. I have a male pastel het clown a female pastel possible het clown and a female het clown. I have an opportunity to buy either a male pastel lesser het clown for $3500 or a female for $4500. Most people seem to feel the prices are good. If I was planning to buy only one of these does anyone think the male would be better to buy (I think the female would be best) but for the price I think maybe to grow her up and get a pastel clown or something in a year or two.

I guess people maybe CAN'T see your sig because I can't......
Many of us are using tapatalk when were not at home and we can't see sigs.. Otherwise, the new forum format allows us to disable other people's sigs because frankly, they can be annoyingly long..
So don't assume everyone knows what you have because you put it in your sig.

But people should know what I have even without my sig...I'm me?!? Seriously didn't try to sound crabby, I use my phone and can see them, just assumed.

I cant. Even after I enabled it. I'm sure some people have the same problem. Anyway, now ya know. Besides, I'm sure you've noticed that some people don't read every word in every post either. Some just skim through and miss parts. Like where you said something about breeding your current het. That kind of got lost in the conversation which is why you had to repeat yourself. Happens a lot.

I would go for the male because he can start producing for you next year and you can probably get your money back before the market prices go down! A female of that caliber is always great to have but it will be a 3 year wait! You can make your own female next year too!

And then it will be a 4 year wait! The time to get a female you want is now, otherwise you lose a year on raising it. If you've got the money, and you really want her... go for it. Is the seller willing to haggle on price?

I would buy the female, sell the male pastel het clown and get a male clown.
Then you can also try to prove out the pos het clown female and make clowns with the het.
