    Brand new owner with ??
I am new to this whole thing and was wondering about light cycles and night time heat. Is it best to just get a heat source that's not a light an keep it on? I have a light right now an I'm a little worried that with it off at night the temperature will drop too low for my new love. Any suggestions? Thanks.

You can get an UTH (under tank heater) with a thermostat. BP's are mostly nocturnal, so the light is really not needed.

You should exchange your lights and get an under tank heater. Lights are going to dry your buddy out and he may have digestions issues without under belly heat.

But what about having a basking spot on one side of the tank?

Bp's are nocturnal and don't "bask".
You don't need a light if you have a UTH.

Ok sweet. Don't need the light then. So the tank doesn't need a cooler side just a regular temp, good humidity, and a few hides will suffice I take it? Water too of course.

So one more thing. I just brought the snake home yesterday. Should I wait to put the UTH under for a week or so? So that the snake gets used to the new smells and stuff or should I just make the changes now and let it get settled in?

Thanks again for all the responses.

I would just make the changes now, that way he can settle in with things the way they are going to be going forward.

No your snake needs the spot to get warm right away. just make sure you have the UTH on one side of the tank or tub and make sure there is one side called the cool side with no heater so they can go there to cool off. Also anther piece of advise when you put your snakes water dish in with him put the water dish on the cool side or your humidity will be too high.

Make sure you have a way to regulate the heat from that UTH so it doesn't burn your BP.

The UTH will only go on one side of your tank :)

Thanks again for all the help. I'm really excited about doing this the best I can. So I bought the UTH and I got an humidity reader. Where is a good place to put that to get an accurate read on the humidity?

I got a dimmer on the UTH. So I can regulate the heat.

Also get a temp gun to keep track of your temps they are awesome very accurate and quick.
