lost it
Whats the most expensive snake you have lost? You know the one that got out of its cage. Ive been lucky so far lost none. knock on wood.
-
I lost my butter for a week. So far that has been the only escape. It was horrible and I hope to never have an escape again.
-
Ive never lost any snakes, I've had a friend of mine lose 1 Bp and 1 5'Boa in his house. He never found them. He searched for them for months. Due to unfinished parts in his house though, the snakes could have gone anywhere.
-
I lost my spider male right before breeding season started. He's not worth a whole lot to anyone else, but I love him and really want some females out of him! I found him 30 minutes later when I realized I left his tub open two shelves down.
-
The guy I buy my rats from has a pied loose somewhere around his house (outside...and it wasn't his) lol.
-
Right after I got my pinstripe yellow belly he got out of his tub. Found him across the room a half hour later stuffed up in the couch. Took an hour to get him Out. That will never happen again.
Check out what's new on my website... www.Homegrownscales.com

Oh jeez! :O
My only escapee was my pastel Spot, he got out for two weeks and I was so worried I'd never find him (there are ways he could get into the walls) but I found him later curled up in the closet.

My super mojave male got out of his feeding tub. He is my most expensive snake in my entire collection. The only reason I have him is my female mojo gave me a surprise clutch and he popped out one of the eggs.

I lost my first normal BP back around the first of June. Apparently the latch wasn't firmly set. Still haven't found her. Not worth much money wise but I'd give a lot to have her back.
-
I lost my Pied female (back when they cost around $3k). Actually, my wife lost it, during a cold February. She took several snakes to my son's school and when I met her at the school, the bag that was supposed to contain the Pied was empty. We were not sure where she lost it: house, car or school. I tore her Cooper Mini apart looking for it. I set a mouse in a cage in her car in the garage every night - no results. I was positive it was gone for good.
She was driving the car a month later and cranked up the radio. The vibration must have disturbed the snake and it dropped down on her feet. That female Pied is due to lay eggs in about three weeks.

I seem to recall an episode of snakebytes tv where Brian said (I think) that his founding pinstripe was loose and couldn't be found in their facility, but was eventually found tucked into the racks somewhere.
-
Its always entertaining to hear other peoples "lost it, found it" stories. :)
I remember that episode when brian was talking about that.
Its amazing you found the pied still in the car!!! Good luck with those eggs!

I almost lost my little Spider girl. I had her in a 10 gallon when she was smaller. I keep the door closed in the snake room at night so kitty doesn't go messing around . I got up to get ready for work one morning and went to open the door to go potty (bathroom in snake room/office) and I felt something at my foot. I kinda brushed it a side gently. I thought it was a cat toy. I went a head a used the potty anyways by then I flicked the light on. I looked down on the floor were the door was and there was my baby girl laying there. I freaked out and picked her up to make sure she was ok. All I could thank about was what if I had stepped on her or what if the cat had hurt her. I was holding her the night before and when I put her back in the tank I was was running my mouth to hubby and didn't put the clamps on.

Re: lost it
I lost my three foot water monitor. Summer time and every door open, never saw the poor thing again!

My first love Lilith.. sneaky little thing broke free when she was very wee snakie, it was the the coldest month of the year here in Maine (below zero F even in day and if it warmed it was single digits) couldn't find her it was feeding day she was tiny and it was cold. After 3 weeks I really thought she froze. Monday morning half asleep pulling my jeans on... something touches my foot.. i look down "Holy -expletive- a snake." Primal brain kicks in I jump back but all in the same thought I realize its MY snake and jump forward to grab her. I scared the absolute bejeezus out of her.. still totally surprised to this day she didn't just bite me for all flailing around and manhandling. She looked at me hungry and ate like a beast that night. She now is coming upon breeding size and is a happy thing.

Re: lost it
I lost both a plasma corn snake and a whiteout corn snake due to their cages not completely clicking shut. I never saw either one of them again and have learned to keep my most valuable colubrids upstairs, where I always seem to recover any escapees. My pythons and boas don't even try to escape, thank goodness!
-
I lost a hatchling corn snake one spring. The next spring some kids and their mom came to my house. The mom explained that the kids caught the snake and wanted to keep it as a pet but knew that I kept snakes and had to check and see if it was mine.
I gave them a set up and the snake. They seemed like nice kids who would probably take care of him. Last I saw he was a good three feet long and a little on the fat side but happy.
