If they have distinct personalities or a distinct appearance you can use that. My wife and I have been using Greek mythology for names, but use whatever best fits the snake.

You could always find a "theme" and stick to that... I have seen some pretty interesting naming conventions here on the board. A friend of mine using comic books to name his animals and another names his based on Movies and Music.

if you want some unique sounding names you can always google 'gods' (ex. greek, chinese, roman, indian etc.) they always come up with some interesting examples and some very beautiful and interesting names.
I also like the theme idea.

When I first got my BP I was also unsure what to name him. After watching him for a couple days I settled on the name Shadow, since he followed every move I made when I went near him :)

I'm having the same problem...been at it for orob 2 weeks. Already tried the gods, deities, demons thing, no luck there, and I can't go with the personality thing unless I wanna wait a week or so more...he's brand new and isn't comin out of his hide for nothin. Ithink I've narrowed it down to two...

Zatoato Ichi (Ichi) -a character of a dozen or so samurai movies a pretty cool basa**
Musashi MIyamoto (prob moto) - The baddest samurai to live, and probably the most dangerous man in history.

What can I say, I like samurai :)

Any votes or suggestions are appreciated.

amara, great name that is a jewel beetle of some sort isn't it? I have always used theme names, Greco-Roman for the most part.

Tagmata might work for a male... Just thinking.

    Amara:

    Origin: Greek; Meaning: Unfading; eternal

    Origin: Latin; Meaning: Bitter; sour

    Origin: African; Meaning: Paradise

    Origin: Sanskrit; Meaning: Immortal

I'm not sure if these were the same meanings you looked at when you named her, but if this is the little girl I sent you, then I think you picked a perfect name! :)

That is funny, I remember my biology and never though of other names. I had it wrong it is a sun beetle. Quite beautiful actually a great name all in all. I still like Tagmata too. I might find a use for it later.

I'll have to wait awhile until I get a snake, but I think I'm sticking to anime character names. I'm leaning towards Matsuda for a male, but I guess I should actually wait until I have a snake to name it. XD

OMG I have two friends that use that theme too! :D My favorite of their's is their female Spider, Hera. I plan on buying her baby in the future. ;)

As for names, I have this weird thing where I simply look at the critter and a name comes to mind. When I won my first BP at an auction, the name Reznor come to mind. So, his name is Reznor. ;)
