Just picked up an adult male, got some questions...
Whatsup guys!?
Last night I got a call from my g/f's brother, because his friend needed to re-home his boa asap. He was moving the next day, and couldn't bring his boa with him. So I decided to give him a home at my place. Now, I currently have a female RTB, but she is still a baby. This guy on the other hand, is 7ft long. I have a rack that uses 42qt rubbermaid tubs. There the wider but shorter tubs as compared to the usual "41" qt tubs. I tried putting him in there, but to me it just seems too small. I have a 55gal tank that I was probably going to utilize, but would like to purchase some kind of cage (boaphile possibly). What do you guys suggest for an adult male? And I'm also curious what you suggest for an adult female? Thanks for all your help!!

I've heard especially for the boaphile that the 4' cages are okay for adult males but females will most likely need the 6' cages.

You can get the 421D from Boaphile.

Depends,
Males will usually live nicely in a 4x2x1 all their life, but a female may need a 6x2x1 or bigger :)

I would shop around, if I were you. I usually go with Repti-racks cages for the price. If you do decide to go with them, though, be sure to add two more vents. The two vents included are not enough. I keep my Colombian males and females in 4x2x1 cages.

Re: Just picked up an adult male, got some questions...
Thanks everyone for all your responses!!
I decided to keep him in a 55 gallon I had laying around until I do figure exactly what I am going to do...All I know is this big guys is a handful! I absolutely love him though, such an inquisitive snake. Its funny because Boa's to me have a completely different disposition compared to any other snake. Very "clingy." We also decided to name him Jake.
What size prey do you typically feed an adult male, and how often is a good idea? He gave me a large rat from what it looked like, and that to me seemed too small. Whats the staple size?

I agree with the other posters. A 4 X 2 would be the smallest I would use, but a 6 X 2 would give a little more room for a 7 footer.

For an adult male at 7 ft, I'd try giving him 2 large rats every 14 to 21 days.
If you're going to only keep a couple boas, you could save some money and build some cages. I use boaphiles. 4' cages so far with my females and males. My largest female is about 6.5'.
You forgot to post up some pics!

Try Boamaster.com I have one. I like it.

Wow, I really like Boamaster enclosures!
Thanks for sharing that!
Pics will be up shortly, I'm gonna snap some when I get back home.
But, I have another question...I set up the enclosure so there is a hide on one side, and the water dish on the other. But what he did was flip the hide upside down, and burrow underneath the aspen shavings. Is this normal for them to burrow like that? I provided the hide, but he seems want nothing to do with it lol.

Sorry for the crappy pic, but I couldn't find my digi. So I snapped one with my webcam. I'll get more!

Thank you! Here's some more so you can get an idea of his size. Pretty big boy.

I did notice he had a little whistle today...Hoping it's some stuck shed maybe? It's not really loud but it is there. I want to open up his mouth and see if there is any mucus, but I'm a little leery due to his size lol. I'll muster up the courage in a week or so :D

Re: Just picked up an adult male, got some questions...
I use Showcase Cages for my snakes... To me, they're more convenient than the Boaphile cages because they have sliding doors, not doors that flip downwards. My cages also got here within a few days, not months. I have 4 x2 cages, but they do make 5 foot cages too. just pricey.

Re: Just picked up an adult male, got some questions...
Thanks, I'll go take a look now.
I got him in a 55 gallon right now, and its such a pain getting him back inside of it lol. He knows every single time I walk over to the one side of my room that its time to go home. I can see having the sliding front door a big + in owning a red tail.
*edit*
Those are some really nice cages! Totally getting one once I have a home of my own. I can see that really being a nice piece to have in your living room or something.
