!!! She got me !!!

So I was spot cleaning out my young female bp (sookie) cage and changing her water...she was in her hide and right infront of the hide is where the mess was and her water bowl...i took her water bowl out and reached in twice to take out the soiled cyprus mulch but when iput new mulch in and was making it even she struck out of her hide and tagged me on the finger...it happened so fast and didnt hurt at all...this is my first bite and probably not my last...can anyone explain to me why this happened...i think it was just adefensive thing because I kept putting my hand right infront of her hide, and she didn't try to coil me it was just a quick stroke then went back in the hide.

Yep, just a defensive bite. Balls will hunt from their hide and will feel threatened and act accordingly if they feel something is getting too close. I would have removed the hide and the snake before spot cleaning. Balls love to strike from their hides. ;)

Yeppers! It was a warning that she was unhappy and felt threatened. If I don't have time to move everyone around, I turn/twist the hide so the hole is away from where my hand will be so I'm less likely to get tagged...especially with the larger ones, and the boas who can do some serious blood draws

here is a pic of the damage...it was painless...now i just gotta see how an adult bite feels...lol...and ya i now know to turn the hide around or completely remove the snake...do you think it is ok to get her out and hold her now or should i leave her alone...do you think she will bite again if i remove the hide and try to get her out.

You can also place an index card in front of the access hole while cleaning or changing the water if you do don't want to disturb her.

is it ok to pick her up now or will she strike again if i remove the hide

Dont worry about picking her up. With all young ball pythons approach from behind their view and just pick them up. Once held they get the jist of who is in charge. Ive been nipped alot with young ball pythons, its not their fault, their young/fearful and will strike not knowing.

No I got bit on the index finger on the side right where the bend of my finger is

i was laying on my bed today and leaning on my right arm. my BP was laying next to me and roaming around the bed in front of me while i checked my phone. suddenly i felt this pinching sensation a couple times and looked down to see my little friend's mouth around my skin by my bra strap.. dunno why i got bit but Anubis didn't fight when i lifted it up to see the damage. I got nipped a couple times but is not bad, i have four little puncture wounds. geez what a little sneak :):) my hair is long and was hanging down around my shoulders. Anubis ( my bp) likes to wrap up in my hair when relaxing, maybe it was playtime?

It happens, I recently got bit near the armpit by one of my carpet pythons while cleaning. Probably the oddest place ive ever been bitten.:D
