    Pet store idiots
hey everyone about 3 hours ago i left petco. i hate petco, i usually go to my trusted pet store petsmart. they have very educated helpful people at my petsmart. but i couldn't make it there, so i went to petco to see if they had hermit crabs.(no luck), but any way there was this couple by the ball python tank. an i went up to them being friendly an asked said, ''cool u gonna get a ball python''. they said do u know anything about these? i said yea, an we started to talk. they asked do they bite. i said, bp's or a very nice an docile snakes thats not really mean an don't bite in general although they each have different personality's some can be bitey even tho i never seen a mean one. usually if they bite its a feeding mistake. they asked is there anyway to pick out one that wouldnt bite. i said i dont know, u would have to spend some time with that snake to see how its attitude is. THEN HERE COMES THE BIG BAD PETSTORE GUY . he asked them what was there last question. they asked him was there anyway to pick out a non biting snake. an this dumb ass said if there all balled up theyre most likely to bite! :rage:NOW NOTICE THIS IS DAY TIME THERE'S ABOUT 4 BP'S IN THERE ALL IN THAT LITTLE HIDELESS CAGE BALLED UP SLEEPING AN SCARED BECAUSE THESE RANDOM PEOPLE JUST KNOCKING ON THE GLASS ALL DAY LONG:rage:. so me being me i start to agrue back:mad: becuase that was just 2 insane if hes telling everyone that. turning them away from the poor animals. i mean thats what they do they ball up when scared its in there name ffs. it sickins me that people like him is the one people go to for snake help an advice. an i was not gonna let him turn them against ball pythons. so i used my right to freedom of speech an got kicked out of petco. to hell with them i dont go there anyways. i cant wait to go back to petsmart an tell them what happen:rofl: its sad who they hire to take care an educated people about these animals

Lucky for me at the petsmart by my house the reptile guy used to breed BP's but had to stop for some reason and is very helpful, except for the fact that his manager made him feed the 4 month old and 9 month old BP's pinkies which he is really mad about.

You got kicked out of the pet-store?! lol

That is definitely uninformed advice though on the part of that employee - poor snakes will never find a home if he is portraying them as vicious little balls of fury...

I think you messed up a wonderful oppertunity to educate both the employee and the people who were interested. You didn't state what you said that got you kicked out of the store, but I'm guessing if you had calmly explained BP behavoir instead of arguing they wouldn't have kicked you out.

One of the things I find irritating if how much they sell normals for. Some serious price gouging.

The blame really lies within the management of these chains, I'm sure many put very little if any training into their employees. The lack of knowledge or ignorance of the employee is a direct reflection of the ppl over him. If you seen something you didnt like, I would see out the corporate office and get in contact with them.

You have NO right to freedom of speech in a private business.

Your rudeness, lack of spelling and dismal ability with grammar lead me to believe that you know little, have a large head and are a poor representative of the reptile community. Until you "larn" a bit more, including how to politely hold a conversation in which you and those you converse with have differing views.

I sure don't need you making people think that I, simply because I keep snakes, am ANYTHING at all like you. Perhaps thinking before trying to be a hero and getting kicked out of petco, like that's hard, would better suit your desire to be admired.

If you were calm that whole time then great but it shouldn't have come to you being escorted out of the store. You can't fix stupid, so if they don't want to listen you just need to walk away. It's hard to see animals suffer because of ignorance, but you can't save them all.

I'm screwed then! My BP balls up all the time!

Locally owned petstores are the best route, of course, due to the fact they (normally) actually care about their animals. I always prefer petsmart though. Petco is right around the corner, but I went there today on my way to work and saw several underfed snakes with partial sheds. Grrr...

before coming here to bp.net i thought petsmart & petco were awesome stores not knowing the info they were giving out was mostly inaccurate. then coming here and seeing all the stories & getting some experience of my own after the fact is the reason why i try like heck to avoid those stores.

wow wilomn - dont bite MY head off for sayin this but despite how you think the OP may have been in the wrong it was a bit harsh to lash out with insults & such strong critisism. i mean your entitled to your opinion, yes, but c'mon was all that really necessary?

OP. No offense man, but it would be more helpful to the rest of us if you at least wrote you post in somewhat normal english. I have to translate and guess at some of the stuff you wrote.

If English is not your native language then I can cut you some slack but you're from LA. You should just have an accept while; talking not while writing.

I think it's adorable that you are going to go to a Petsmart to complain about Petco.

Maybe you could follow up on that by going to Burger King to complain about the fat and salt content of the food at McDonald's.

Surely you know me well enough to know that I must have thought it necessary or I wouldn't have bothered at all.

This is neither the first nor last time I've seen this. If that's the best one can do, doing nothing would be the better course of action. YOU may not have problems with people like this making first impressions of reptile keepers on non-reptile keepers, but others know the damage done.

If bragging about stupidity is your thing, as it seemed to be with the OP, perhaps another site would be more appropriate.

I totally agree with Wes here. This situation could have been dealt with a much more mature manner then what the OP did. We can all agree to disagree here but Wes is correct. He does not sugar coat things and tells it like it is and I respect him for that.

I am just gonna say one thing here, you DO have a right to free speech anywhere, even in a private buisiness, it is guaranteed by the Constitution under the First Amendment. However a private buisiness also has the right to kick your butt right off their property, it is called the right to refuse service...

I will also mention that both Petco and Petsmart are death camps for not only reptiles but all of their small animals, and they are ridiculously overpriced on their pets, it is pure profit for them when you purchase any small animal from them, do not shop there and you will not support their monstrous appetite for sick and dying reptiles...

Why do people always think Free Speech means you have the right to yell at people, argue and generally be a pain? It was written to protect you from getting arrested and imprisoned for criticizing the government, not so you could scream at your neighbors, I digress however, I enjoy giving ignorant savages a piece of my mind as well, but it is better to give the new reptile owners a positive and calm explanation for why Petco is a worthless pile of dog feces, instead of looking like a lunatic and being escorted out of there. Don't get me wrong I totally empathize with the whole situation, but now that young couple think your a nut, and they are gonna listen to the terrible advice of that brain dead Petco employee, which is a guaranteed death sentence for their poor new snake...

PS: Sorry for my brutally long run on sentences...

People should do some research on the companies that supply these chains with the animals in which they sell, most would be shocked. I wont step foot in either chain, one is no better than the other.

i did not say nor will i even think to say that the OP handled the situation correctly.
yes, he could've been more calm about his views and opinions & might've been listened to.
yes, his being nasty about it only exaserbated the problem we herpers face on a daily basis. your right to be concerned about that.

my point is no matter how crappy a situation everyone involved can make choices on how they behave.

i've had my own experiences with those pet store employees, ok so i get it.

i just dont see how hurling insults is gonna resolve anything.

i know icandi. i'm not saying wilomn shouldnt do so...it's just looking like an attack in my eyes is all.
i'm quite passive most times so i guess aggressive responses look like attacks.
i keep going back & re-reading everything trying to make sure i'm not missing anything.

wilomn i'm sorry, i'm not saying your in the wrong and i'm agreeing that the OP definitely is but i guess your aggressiveness is coming off a little strong. i tend to think that on occasion.
i seriously dont want to have an never-ending go-round over these differences in opinion.
can we agree to disagree & just be civil with each other in the process?
i truly enjoy this site & have no need for enemies here.
