Ball Python Addiction!!
Ahoy!
The title says it all - I purchased my first ball python last year and got my second this year. Have always been an animal person and have had my fair share over the years, but never reptiles. I am amazed at how addictive these awesome creatures are.
Unfortunately "not allowed" to get any more until after my wedding this year (can't come soon enough, lol). Looking forward to starting a nice little collection...
I can only assume I am not the only one that has become addicted to these great snakes... How soon after your first snake did you get your 2nd, 3rd.... 20th etc. =)
-
I got my first reptile which is a female ball on june 6 and since then I have bought a male ball and a score corn snake and tommorrow i am gonna start on my 4 or 5 tub breeder rack...very addicting...i wish I would have started sooner...way better pet than any cat or dog:)
-
Lol, it really is an addicition. I started this year with 1 snake, my normal female Lily, I got her in October of 2010. She was a pet store purchase, so I over paid but I still love her.
In February I got my first morph my little spider because Lily needed a bigger cage anyways. It pretty much snow balled from there. I bought my pastel yellow belly because I wanted to make some bees with my spider, but realized housing 3 snakes in cages was going to be a pain I built a rack. The rack was the big mistake because I built it big enough to house 12 snakes. :P
So in March I got my pastel yellow belly and a pair of spotnoses.
In April I got my RTB.
In May I got my butter, ph caramel glow and enchi.
June brought me my NERD lemon pastel.
And so far this month I gotten my little bee and a KSB.
I also got two crested geckos at some point between May and June, I don't remember the date.
So not all BPs, but I am now hooked on reptiles. I really want a hognose, some leopard geckos and various other snakes. I'm really looking to NARBC in Tinley Park, I want to get a BEL. ^__^
-
Mmm I started with 1. A year later I had 3.
5 years later I have 47 I can't get enough of them. I don't think I'll be happy until I have 1 or more of each color and morph. I'm a kid in a candy store when it comes to kingsnake.com and expos. Oh dear I feel a relapse.

Sounds like you know what you want! =)
I'd like to pick up a Spinner and/or Lesser, but not until next year... or later this year and if a see a female cinny for a good deal I'll grab her and see if I can get a super. Breeding is still distant though, lots to prepare/learn. Using the ol' measure twice cut once theory.
I have seen some 100% Het Pied pairs for between $400 and $500. Check out some of the sponsored sites here on BP.Net - I looked at a few and most have the HET Pied females between $300 and $400 and males around $100.
-
There are het pied females on kingsnake 245 and males I think 125. Something like that. I think it was underground reptiles? Not sure.

Re: Ball Python Addiction!!
Right now I only have 1 but I would love more. Would love a spider, or a pied. But the wife says no more :) She wont even go near the normal that I got. Besides that money is an issue too with the morphs :) I know if I could get the wife to start holding it she would adore it. She was scared of our dragons when we got them but warmed up and now adores them. LOL I am hoping she warms up soon as I really want more :please:

I'm in a similar situation - My fiance will help clean tanks and do daily maintenance, but won't hold the snakes. Says they always look at her like they want to eat her! hahaha...

My bf was the same at first. Although he has had his hands full bc I've never bothered to ask permission. I'm bad like that.
They just kinda appear at my front door. For awhile I was telling him the stork was bringing them to me. His response to me having everyone. Bc the balls aren't my only addiction. Is that im responsible for everyone. And I am. So hey I do what I love. No problem!
But he does enjoy helping, and holding. He's still a sissy about getting one out of it's tub. But eh whatever.
Ps don't tell anyone but calypso is one of my favorites

Lol, when my family came to visit my mom kept saying "I can't believe you just reach in there and grab them." every time I took one out. :P

We started last year around November and got Hera, we got our little Corn Zeus in Dec and since have added 3 more to the collection. Currently stopping for now though until I get a rack system set up, then I can go nuts again :rolleye2:

Re: Ball Python Addiction!!
I bought my BP in the fall one year, a regular male normal. I had twenty snakes less then a year later. Addiction doesn't really do the whole obsession justice.
-
Re: Ball Python Addiction!!
I Started with my normal female back in college, but my situation prevented me from getting anymore. Well now there is nothing stop me, I recently acquired a male super pastel. I'm keeping my eye open and I would be surprised if my collection starts to grow very quickly

Re: Ball Python Addiction!!
I saw my first BP morphs (other than albinos) April of last year. I now have the collection below, and have hatched (and sold!) my first two clutches!:banana::banana:

0.2 Normals
0.1 Lemon Blast
0.1 Super pastel PH Pied
0.1 Calico
0.1 Mojave
0.1 Pied
1.1 Desert Ghosts
0.2 Het Pieds

Re: Ball Python Addiction!!
I started mid 2010 and am already at 26 snakes and growing quickly. My girlfriend loves the snakes but poses a problem when I say Im gonna sell that one and I hear "you better not, I love him." She recently has been getting a little worried as I have pretty much been buying one snake every paycheck :)

So not until next year... turned into last friday. Picked up a 2010 Spinner Male and a 2009 Pastel Female. Couldn't find any female Lessers unfortunately, was looking for something 1000g and up, oh well. I'm excited all the same to have new additions to the fam. :)

In 2006 we bought oure first ball python and now we stopped counting :)

Haha, understatement indeed. I already picked up two more since I posted this and just got back from my breeder and put a female Lesser on hold. The "Rat" bill just keeps growing!

If I was in my own house and not an apartment I'd have more for sure, and probably branch out with different species...but I don't want to push my luck with my landlord lol.

I hear yah, I have slowly been turning a section of my basement into a snake room. I like a lot of other species as well, but I really like the temperment and size of the Ball Pythons... I really like some of the Boa's I have seen, but just so big - not sure if I am comfortable enough to keep them yet.
