    Second Opinion on Temp Issues
Hey guys, Im new to the site, as well as a new bp owner.
I recently purchased a three yr old bp with her original housing from previous owner. Due to the temp conditions in my house being different from the previous owner's I had to make some slight changes to get the appropriate temps.

Currently I have two UTH's, one small running at a low power level on the cold side and one larger one running a tad higher for the hot side. The issue I'm having is that I have a digital thermometer/hygrometer from Lowes for about $13 that says my hot side is 105 F (way too hot!!) but I also have a $70 infrared temp gun that says my hottest surface on the hot side is about 92 F. I would assume that the digital thermometer is simply reading ambient air temps and I should rely on the infrared readings. Just wanted some other opinions or any info that anyone may have.

    Thanks,
    Nick

I have a 40 gal tank, screen top.

Substrate: Zoo Med's aspen snake bedding

Heat: one small UTH (came attached when purchased), one large UTH for 30-40 gal tanks. Small one is running very low for cold side, Larger running between low-med for hot side.

Water: Very large Petsmart style reptile dish (came with purchase) probably holds half gallon or so.

Humidity: Digital thermometer/Hygrometer says it 51%. dial gauge (petsmart) says it about 75%. both located closley, so there's another contradiction but I trusted the digital over the dial.

But the thermometer is telling me that the hot side is 105 and the cold side, where the probe is is at 80. I also get around 80 when I measure the temp of the cold side with the infrared. So only prob is my hot side not correlating.

Are the uth's controlled by a thermostat?

Yea both are controlled by two separate thermostats. One at a low setting and one at a low-med setting.

Nope, not good, some use it. Try this one http://www.amazon.com/Hydrofarm-MTPR...0534202&sr=8-2

It's inexpensive, and works well. You'll only need one for the hot side, don't really know why the previous owner had 2 heat mats. What state are you in?
