First clutch is official...all normals!
Well my very first clutch from my pos het pied girl looks to have been fathered by my het pied male...she didn't prove out.
Good news is I have a great ratio. Out of 7 eggs I got 2.5. I will pop them again in a few more days to verify. Really nice patterns on these little ones, and believe it or not, I'm not crushed that she didn't prove out. So here are the little buggers.
Males (the one on the top has a really cool tail pattern)

And the females (I am keeping the one on the top as she has a neat little J or hook in her pattern and also the one on the bottom left as she has a cool perfect dot in the middle of her back)

congrats :)
They are Beauties !!
That male on the top is GORGEOUS. What a interesting tail pattern. Seems like they all have that to some degree ? Well, the one's who's tail I can see.
I love the female all the way on the right ! Has a funky tail pattern. Oh, the stretched out one I love as well. I would have a hard time choosing between THOSE two :)
More pics, please...hehe

I like Female in the middle all the way to the right :gj: Nice little worms u have there :gj::gj::gj:

Okay, I love the female all the way on the right the most, can you make more pics ? She looks interesting ...
Would love to see her neck pattern and a picture of her more "stretched out"
That top male is crazy ! His dark is SO black.

Re: First clutch is official...all normals!
Thanks,
I will get some more pics of them in a day or two...I have been really smitten by that female on the far right myself. She has a very cool tail pattern, not as nice as the top males, but close.

You should keep her.
Trust me !
Something about that one :)

Keep the clutch repeat the pairing next year ;) Those babies are AWESOME love the tail on the top photo really stands out. Looks almost like the tail was trying to be pied ! Will look forward to seeing more photos :)

Re: First clutch is official...all normals!
Well, at least you have some sweet looking normals! My eggs are starting to pip, and I may be in the same boat with all normals. But could be Mojaves, can't tell yet.
anyway, congrats on your clutch,
Dave

Hi,
I really like those tail patterns too. :)
But one clutch doesn't mean she didn't prove out conclusively - you might have just got slayed on the odds.
I am also slightly puzzled by the line "looks to have been fathered by my het pied male" - can you expand on that?

Remember I threw in my pastel to get the het pied male going...haha. Anyhow, unless the odds were totally against me, I would have thought to have at the least one pastel out of the bunch if the pastel sired the clutch. I am definitely keeping 3 of the females so time will tell.

You should post some more pics of them after they shed! Especially some belly shots. With the tail markings that a couple of them have, it looks like you may have just gotten more hets? What are your plans for the girls that you plan on keeping?

The three girls I'm keeping are going to be bred back to the het pied, who knows, I man even have a pied to breed them to by then. I'm happy with them overall. 7 healthy babies is nothing to sniff at. Thanks Andrea.

Proven female breeder, proven incubator, and proven male breeder. Those three things alone make the whole clutch priceless. :gj:

Can we get a few more pics of the boy on the top left and the girl on the bottom right? They have really neat tail patterns.

I'll post some more pics after they have shed...He is going to be held back as well..although he may be moving to the middle of PA with my brother lol.

Wow that male does have a cool tail! Congrats!
-
Actually, it is entirely possible that one or both males could have fathered the clutch and you still got all normals.
Remember any eggs fathered by the pastel, each one has a 50% chance of being a pastel. With a het pied, even if your girl is het the odds are even lower, only a 25% of being a pied, which means there is a 75% chance for each egg to be a visual normal.
Regardless of if she proves to be pied or not, those whacked out patterns make it worth repeating the pairing next season.

Those are some gorgeous little worms!

Like Brian said you did prove 3 things regardless of getting a pied. :gj: I guess crossing my fingers for you didn't work that much, but I know you'll get a pied once you breed het. pied male to your 3 females.
I really like that tail pattern. You think that could be a possible recessive pattern or is it just something cool?
