Boaphile help

Im getting a boaphile cage to move my BP into and im getting a radient heat emitter for ambient temps preinstalled, and i want to use a UTH for the hotspot. They have the option of them installing it. However i was wondering if i could just install the new UTH i have at home. It would save money. thanks

Looking around online it says this should be fine but you would need a thermostat to regulate the temperatures.

I do not have first hand experience with this, hopefully someone else can help out here and give some more information.

You could.

That RHP will provide not only a hot spot, but should heat up the whole cage a few degrees over ambient.

What's the ambient temp in your snake room?

how can an RHP provided a hot spot, is there hotter areas on the pannel then other areas on it so it can account for the temp gradience, and are you suggesting i only need the RHP not a UTH. in my basement the temp can go down to 65 but if i moved the tank upstairs it could be warmer

Move the tank upstairs, or heat the basement.

A RHP provides an excellent hotspot and has the added benefit of raising your cage temps. Set the probe under it for 90 degrees and the rest of the cage will warm a bit too. The middle will be a bit higher than ambient and end farthest from the RHP will be skosh above ambient.

A UTH will provide only a hotspot and do little for the ambient temp.

In my cages, the only thing I use are RHPs.

that sounds great but what if its not enough in winter?

oh and im getting a 36 X 24 X 11.5 cage is getting 50 watt RHP enough?

and should i get a boaphile RHP or one from reptile basic or pro products

Where ever you get the RHP, you will need to run a thermostat with it.

A UTH will do nothing for your ambient temps, whether you live in a house or an igloo. You will need to heat your house to keep your ambient temps at a reasonable level.

As Jason stated, you will need a thermostat to run any heating element.

I would ask the Boaphile about RHP sizing. The Boaphile will take into account the species of animal, the size of the cage and them temp in your igloo and make an educated recommendation.

I would go with the one that the Boaphile can install while fabricating the cage. That way when it is delivered to your house, all you have to do is plug and play.
