Big Problem With My Eggs

OKay so in my previous posts i talked about how one of my eggs popped. So ive been checking my eggs and i saw something move by the bandage i used to cover it. I removed it and saw maggots on my egg. Then i decided to look under my eggs and i saw some maggots on the good eggs. I spent the last 2 hours cleaning these eggs and i hope i got rid of most of them, but some are even in the egg that popped, but i think its still alive=(. Idk how this happened. my cooler is air tight, the room i have the incubator in is extremely clean. Is there anything i can do to save my eggs? Idk what to do because ive never herd of this happening before =(

Don't worry
Maggots only eat dead flesh or rotting things.
If they were in the egg odds are they were eating the bad whites or shrivled blood vessels.
And on the healthy eggs. No worries.
Healthy eggs means no dead tissue or food for maggots.
If they are in the egg that popped than they won't kill the embryo I'm guessing but Is still do my very best to get them out.
Try putting a peice of apple in there to draw the maggots remaining out of the eggs and maybe it will give the embryo a better chance.

Just remember that they eat death. Living tissue and what not is left unharmed.
But keep an eye on the egg whites and make sure that embryo doesn't dryout

Sookieball is 100%, maggots do not eat living flesh. If they are eating it, it's dead, that's why you can use maggots in place of surgery in some cases, to clean out badly infected or gangrenous wounds.

Also, as far as being airtight, it only takes one fly to get in and lay a few eggs and you've got chaos. I don't know anything about eggs and incubation, but it might be a good idea to change the substrate that they are on, in case there are more eggs in there?? I don't know if you can change the incubation substrate half way through, but if you can, then maybe do that?

Try clean it as best you can, and then hope for the best!

Thanks a lot, i know in surgeries where there is inflected flesh maggots are used so i was thinking that they weren't eating any live flesh and i was thinking maggots only eat dead flesh, but just wanted to be sure.. The apple is a great idea so im guna put one in there tonight. Thanks guys

It depends on the species of fly what the maggots eat.

Some absolutely will eat living tissue.

Try and clean them off - even if they are only eating dead tissue they are crapping in the egg white.

I got something similar this year. we have been having a terrible time with these little Gnats or fruit fly things. they get in the tubs with the fresh hatched babies. It's been a real nightmare trying to fight them for sure..as for the larva (maggot sounds so terrible) deal with them the best you can and get you some fly strips they will help get the adult egg laying fly's.

I had this problem my first year breeding ball pythons. I had cut the eggs a few days before they were due to hatch and I had been having a gnat problem in my house (note to self, keep fruit in fridge) and they had gotten into the egg tub. I had maggots in the eggs and it was a pain to go in there every day until hatching to clean them out. All you can really do is pick them out.

How far into incubation are they?

How far are you from hatching? I would isolate that egg in its own container and clean them off of the rest of the eggs. Make sure your egg box is 100% air tight. Your cooler is obviously not totally air tight or the flys could not have got in.

Down here in FL I have problems with these flies for a couple of months every summer. Even when my snakes are totally clean they are around. Especially in the more humid baby tubs. This year I actually bought one of those UV bug zapper lights and that seemed to have helped a lot. Regardless, they only seem to be around for a couple months and then they are gone. I stopped seeing them at my place a couple weeks ago.

They're about a month and a half away from hatching...
All i can try and do i guess is use the fly strips and clean them

I refuse to seperate them, only because the way this egg popped was becuse i tired to seperate a molding egg from it

Sorry... The thought is icky.
But that's aweful this is happening so early in incubation.
It's a bit more risky.

if it helps the flys that seem to be laying them look like little fruit fly things

just clean the flies/mags frequently, in the future if you have an egg go bad, either leave it be, or cut away bad egg, leaving just the pieces of shell attached to the good egg(s).

I had a fly prob also, but now there are a few spiders in my snake room, my sigoth always tries to remove them (he hates spiders).

It depends on what type. I'm assuming the ones in your house would be like that..
but there are types that feed on living animals that will let them.
I've had rescue newborn kittens that were healthy EXCEPT they were covered in fly larva and the larva entered the ears (that weren't even open yet) and anus,etc. I think these are bots though and not something you'd encounter indoors.
