High white vs. low white spider

I'm just wondering, I've noticed some spiders are almost half white, while others have a rather low amount of white. Personally I prefer the high white. But I was wondering, does the amount of white effect the value?

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer:

I've followed pieds for quite awhile and it definitely seems to me that, while it is heavily debated whether the amount of white in the parents affects the amount of white in the offspring, the amount of white in a pied certainly is directly correlated with its market value.

The reason seems simply to be that high-whites are more desirable -- though I and many others love pieds of all degrees of white, just about everybody wants a high (or at least medium) white one.

... I honestly don't know whether high whites are any more or less common than low whites; obviously if they're less commonly produced, they would also command a higher price. I can't say whether that's a factor, though.

The difference seems especially significant in males (perhaps because females are always in such high demand). Last year when I was very seriously seeking a male pied -- medium to high white -- it seemed the price ranges were ~$600-900 for a low-white, $800-1000 for a medium white, $900-1500 for a high-white. I reckon this year all prices will be a fair bit lower for males, particularly the low-whites.

On spiders the amount of white doesn't effect the value I myself Prefer low witenagemot spiders that are very gold and actually paid a little more for her

i havnt noticed it being much of a factor in spiders. i have seen a few EXCEPTIONAL spiders that commanded a higher price as they deserved it. many people have high whites and low whites and sell them of together or at a slightly elevated price. usually not big difference in price like 50 bucks or so.
now bumble bees on the other hand i have seen large price difference's when it comes to how white the sides are. either way most prefer or seek the high white. i myself care only about the pattern. i also prefer med to low white when it comes to pied's so i can see more of the pattern and colors that go along with pied.

It seems to be random like the pieds.

But since you are going to be looking at the animal for 30 odd years or so it makes sense to me to pay a little extra for the one you think looks the best. :)

I would also pay extra for one that had a look I wanted to use in a project - say blackbacked ( the "barbed wire" look ) or reduced. I want one with nothing but black dots or crosses down the back, no pattern on the side at all :wuv: , to mix with a reduced lemon pastel ( if I can find one ) to try and make my dream bumblebee. :please:

although i think spiders are nice lookin' my personal preference as far as a spider morph would be the bumblebee & me personally i'd pay more for a high white versus a low white. i dont see it as they're less valuable but i like the lookers more then the the run of mill common lookin' ones. thats just me...
now for the pieds...since they've been brought up...i would try find a medium white (pumpkin pied specifically) with 50/50 white/pattern or as close to that as possible.
my personal favorite in high white pieds though would be the lesser pied but there's no way i'd be able to afford its high price tag.
ok enough about pieds...my point here is again:

i would pay more for a high white bumblebee.

Derek and I think alike, when and if I ever get a spider, the more reduced the better.

I think the high white/low white thing it mostly personal preference, but I would think selective breeding a high white spider would give you the best chance at a high white bee, which everyone seems to want.

I personally LOVE high white spiders a lot more than lows, however low white bees are my favorites bees... Prices really depends on the peoples preferance and how much theyre willing to pay..really its your call

I personally LOVE low-whites, my girl has pretty much NO white on her except for a few sprinklings of white scales here and there. But that's just because I prefer seeing more of the yellow-gold color than I do the white. :D

I'm hoping to find a smokin' Pastel male for her, maybe even a Pastel YB if I can and try and get some YELLOW Bee's. (I just saw a Pastel Spector online, and a Super Pastel YB that I could only dream of for now. :please: )

im the exact opposite. i have been looking for a bee with absolutely NO dots in the pattern. i like a few webs going down the side but still reduced. with what ever bee i find i will be looking for the high white sides.

i think low low white pieds are neat cuz of the super blurry dinker-like orangey gooey pattern.

I've sold both low white and ubber high white and to me the amount of white doesn't dictate the price as much as the amount of spots or pattern. The fewer the spots the better it a price you can get for it..

I really don't like high white Spiders and especialy high white Pieds. I like a 50% Pied,not a white snake with a brown head. As far as value,some people like them so will pay more. Spiders are very variable to begin with.

Not sure if it effects the value, it's more of a personal preference. I love my little spider girl, I think she's mid-high white. I would have loved more white on her but I fell in love with her in particular :)

Its not that i prefer high or low white, but I like as much variation in the colors as possible. I don't care much for the gold part lol. I like my girl because even though shes got some pretty decent white, towards the belly and along her striping she's got some bright yellows instead of just plain white
