    centruroides exilicauda and brood
i found a gravid c.exilicauda aka arizona bark scorpion at the gramps and took it in because it was death or a luxurious life in captivity. the second night before i had a permanent enclosure momma scorpion delivered her brood.today i set up the permanent viv and moved her and her back full of scorplings into the 5.5 gallon tank after i set it up of course.
ill be posting pics of the set up and progress until then heres a pic of the momma with babies aboard in the old plastic container i caught her in a couple of hours after she gave birth.i left a dead cricket in there just in case she got hungry, giving birth to 20=35 scorplings has to leave you with an appetite.

thanks.i had to take her in.its scorp genocide at my grandparents when we find em.elderly and dogs dont agree with these scorpions so everything must die on the spot but my new found fascination saved this momma scorp and scorplings.

Tool and Grey come hand in hand. the setup just got a little bit more cooler.i propped up a branch and added bark along the back wall.not worth a pic until momma comes out for a stroll, its finished or the lil ones are running around.:D

Great find for sure!! Be careful disturbing her too much. Momma scorps will eat the young if they feel inscure.

i have to correct myself as studies have proven c.exilicauda and c.sculpturatus arent the same.what i have they are actually c.sculpts.

i always seperated my babies once they left the mother's back. it reduced the chance of cannibalism among the young. I used tackle boxes from wal-mart. They were single layer with dividers.

uuuuu.thats a good idea with the tackle boxes.
i was planning on keeping them all in the same viv and making sure there is always prey running around the tank as someone else has suggested to me..
this is my first time caring for slings so any suggestions and help will be appreciated.
it just so happens im going to wally world today as well and doesnt sound like a bad idea to break up the pack and limit the numbers i have in one viv til i find homes for em.or just keep em.either way:D

these are her usual hang out spots from the times i have seen her out.tonight she has a basking lamp on as some one is cranking the ac tonight.
she came out early im guessing because i put on the heat lamp.
i think im gonna get her a lamp of her own.shes borrowing my emperors tonight.

i liked seperating them so i could monitor whos feeding and sheding. if you kept them all in there, you'd never know if one was missing out on food or not. i just put a piece of cork bark in each partition and they were good to go.

yep i got the single layer tacklebox with dividers.what do you suggest i use to poke airholes?
    heated ice pick,small drillbit?

how many do you think i should keep with the mom in the main viv.again its a 5.5 gallon with tons of hiding spots and adventuring, well you seen the pics.
or should i just get another tackle box(15sections) and keep mom in the main viv by herself?

i would seperate them all from mom. mom might get hungry or a baby might get stronger and eat another baby. i would get another box. shame you aren't closer!! i have six or so gathering dust!!!

i used a small nail and heated it with a propane torch. i held the nail with vice grips. i also made a templet for the holes out of wood so they came out nice and even (i am a bit OCD when it comes to that!). i put holes in the lid and all the way around the top of the sides.

drilling plastic is bad news. it tends to crack the plastic.

babies are so much fun!! just wait and see! you'll start to get excited when they start molting. it is truely amazing how big they can get from one molt to the next. it seems like the jump from 3i-4i is huge!!

    the babies new condo
there were 20 scorplings, the biggest 3 sections contain 2 scorplings each and there was 2 other scorplings that refused to budge from the metamorphic rock holes so i just left them with the mom in the main viv since they were so stubborn.
    http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r...0715111340.jpg

heres one by mah fingah during the move, and its the biggest of the babies.
    http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r...0715111423.jpg

since i had to remove everything from the main viv to get to all the babies its redesigned and with a sand and eco earth mix.ill take pics of that soon.
