Is a rack ok to house a male Hog Island Boa?
I really want to get a Hog Island Boa. When I do I'll get a male for their smaller size. So is it ok to house one in a rack or do they need an enclosure like I've read the bigger boas need?

Sorry, I should have posted this in the general boa section.

A rack for a baby would be fine but I dont think its a good idea.. boas get really big and exceed the size limit for racks. I suggest you use an enclosure (:

With hoggies being small you could get by with something like 66qt under-bed boxes
I was using the sterlite ones for my 4-5 ft sub-adults and my ca adult male about 5.5ft.

I would think think a 66 or 72qt underfed tub would work long term maybe not forever but for a long time.

What size rack? They make boa racks. It all depends on the size of the tub and the size of the snake;)

A male hog would not be too happy in a sterilite/iris type bin. A cage is best. Trust me you don't want to be dealing with a 5 foot boa that can easily shoot out over the top of a rack bin.

I used cages and 41qt bins for boas. My males stayed in 41qt when under 6ft no problems at all.

Its what you like and is convenient to you.

That's why I was asking, I've seen boa racks but read that they tend to do better in an enclosure. I just like erverything that comes with using a rack but I wouldn't want to sacrifice the animals well being.

Putting a snake in a rack wont effect it at all. So long as you maintain temps and humidity theres nothing to worry about
