Simple Animal Tracker ( Snake Tracker App )

Hey, everyone, important news...Simple Animal Tracker is out! We released the basic version of the app this weekend at the show we went to in NY. You can see what features are included and download it here (http://simpleanimaltracker.com/features.php).


Originally we were going to charge for the basic version, but as a thank you to everyone who has helped us get to this point we decided to make it free. It may not always be free, so make sure to get it while it is. This version will allow you to track all the basics. You can track feedings, cleanings, weights, and locations. You will be allowed 10 active animals on this version. In more advanced editions the limit will be higher or removed, and we plan to add the ability to increase the limits (probably by purchasing a product key that allows extra animals). It has bar code scanning built in so if you have a scanner you can print and use the tub cards and labels right from the application.

I will be working on the wiki pages and could use some help if anyone out there is more eloquent than I. The install is very straight forward, but I wanted to add pages about some of the features like batch feeding, and later on more of the advanced features. If you want to help me out just let me know. Ok everyone, I made a little video of the Beta version we are currently testing. It is without any real design and still has much to be implemented, but I wanted to show off what we had and where we are going. Please be nice as it is a beta, but let me know what you think of how things are laid out and how the actions are taking place.

Looking good. For the feeding portion I would like to be able to specify the feeding date instead of it being automatically applied. And maybe some sort of option to add comments?

You can, I just didnt show it there. There is a button next to the date that wil bring up the date picker

I should also mention you can add multiple animals to the feeding on that window using the bottom pane.

That's a cool feature.

I think it is too, and if you use a barcode scanner you can just scan everything you want to feed and it will add it in.

For the notes section, that will be in there as well, just trying to decide the best way to have it situated.

Neither of us have a Mac so we would have to look into that a bit. So no there isnt one in the works, but never say never :)

I'd be willing to test it out (once I got home of course). I'm currently using Metzcal Herp Software but I would like to have an app instead of pulling out the laptop every time I wanted to do something with my snakes. This sounds like it has a lot of potential! :gj:

Well this is the desktop app, it does have a scanning ability and also works very well on the windows tablets I tested it on, but still needs to be installed on a machine. Mobile apps will be later on down the road.

Wow, looks really promising! Would the cost be a flat fee or per year?

Flat fee, the projected costs are on the feature page at
Features, but if you want to send us some beer every year we wouldn't mind ;)

We can't really use it yet due to the 10 animal restriction, but it looks great so far.

Is this app android compatible?

This is just the desktop portion of the app right now. Android is still in development.

How does the scanner interface with the application? can you use any usb barcode scanner? Do you have a recommended scanner? Does it work with android/iOS scanners?

We have used 3 different USB scanners, but any scanner your PC has should work, and it can handle barcode or the image code as well. I can get you the types of scanners we used later when I get home if you want.

I'd be interested in a mac/unix/java version. PC only is a bit limited.

We plan to expand, but with only 1 developer we are doing what we know first then trying new things :)

Smart however. I must agree with get this on the android market wildfire for you. There's a lot of people.with snakes in the country granted leave a free.version for everyone to try it our, and then your more pricey one.. your a smart cookie thinking of this.. makeing it if you know what I mean

The popularity of this has been so great and the requests for different animal interfaces keep coming in so we are working on pulling another developer in to help us out. With any luck he will be able to work on one path while the other dev works on the other. Speaking of, we have a new version coming this week with bug fixes and a few new additions in it. I will post when it is up. Thanks guys.

Just for you guys, here is the download before it is officially public. It is on our new site Simple Animal Manager as Tracker implied we would be putting a GPS device on the animals and was confusing too many people. I will be moving the site and content over this week and finishing up the new site, but if you dont complain about the site in progress you can have the new version here
