are you okay with other people handling your animals?..or are you very cautious with that type of thing?
i dont mind..in fact i encourage anyone who seems curious about snakes and such to handle my balls. my g/f was scared of snakes before i got my pythons and now she holds them often..which i find attractive

Usually the people that are allowed in the snake room (and that's not many) I have no issue letting them handling my animals (except for 1), those people are snake owners themselves so it's not an issue.
Other people with not ownership experience make me VERY nervous but so far there has not been many, non snake people do not care about my snake room, most don't even know it exist. ;)

Re: other people handling your balls..:)
so far the coolest experience(sp?)i had was my mother holding my snakes..she was always fearful of them and would never let me get one as a kid but she held one of my ball pythons and she loved him,she even asks to see him when she comes to my house sometimes..that was crazy/cool
children im always a little leary of but i havent had any incidents with dropping or anything..certain people i know for sure i wouldnt hand them over to. because if they drop my snake..i'd be forced to drop them and nobody wants that

I don't mind people holding my snakes as long as I am there to supervise. I think it's great when someone who is on the fence about snakes holds one of mine and then starts to think they are cool. :)
My main concern is that I can't trust half of my collection not to bit someone. Most of them are still young and snappy. I would hate for someone who is iffy about snakes to get bit by one of them.

yeah that may turn them off all together..good point

I'm hyper-paranoid about my collection catching some nasty virus so I don't usually let anyone near them.

ahh yes..i usually ask people to was their hands first. i get what you're saying though..nothing wrong with that

I haven't had a lot of opportunity to let anyone hold my snakes. I always supervise the few people who have and I have no problem with it. I think it's awesome when my 7 year old step-daughter asks if she can hold the snakes. Other than that, it's only been my wife (always supervised) and a good friend and fellow board member who also keeps bps, so I trust him...

Re: other people handling your balls..:)
I'm very picky about who I let handle my snakes or even who I let into my reptile room. Even my best friends who I am comfortable with handling my snakes, know that I have to be there in the room with them.
Just last weekend, my mother in law invited some friends out to the club and had them meet her here. I was in the middle of feeding my baby balls (they are in the living room) and this guy walks in and starts going nuts because he LOVES snakes and wants to hold them(which I did not allow). Of course the sudden activity freaks the two babies I was feeding out and they didn't eat. He asks to see my other snakes and to be nice to my mother in law I take him into the reptile room. Big mistake. He asks to see my boa (I had mentioned to him I had one) and so I pull her tub out. She is, of course, hungry and I tell him its best if we don't take her out because she's hungry. Without hesitation he reaches in and grabs her and pulls her out of the tub and starts spouting off how to properly handle a snake. I was like wth? I got her back from him and put her away and ended the "tour". Now I'm really paranoid about people in my reptile room.

that sounds like it was horrible

Wow that would have ^%\?|£.+,')&$(;($*#|%+ me off. Wow.... I just dont understand why someone would just reach in and grab someone else's snakes without asking.
We have a couple of friends who we allow to hold our reptiles. The kids all enjoy the snakes. Scott builds cages, racks ect ....and if we have people coming to the house we don't know to pick up their cage or what ever Scott made, we usually don't allow them to see our collection. I guess it just depends on the people really. We have some expensive reptiles and I would be ready to kill of someone we showed the collection to and didn't really know came and robbed us.

Lol good question.
I personally have a gf and tons of friends and friends of friends over a lot. So when it comes to my piebald and 1000$+(and/or potential money maker) snakes that i may have i am pretty selective on who holds them. Pretty much if you can appreciate there value and treat them as such i can trust you enough to hold them a bit, but if you just "WANT TO SEE A SNAKE MAN!!!" ill give your a normal.

This. When my daughters want to handle the snakes I let them, but I don't go far from them while they are doing it. Anyone who hasn't before I usually don't.
-
i dont mind if kids hold my snake but only my normals dont want to ruin my clown lol as for other people family i dont mind and some friends i dont mind. and if some one is comeing to possibly buy a snake from me i meet them outside my house or somewhere else i have them use hand sanitizer in case they decide to back out and my snake wont get nothing bad. i know its over the top but hey i take great care of my dalings lol
-
Whenever I let people handle mine, I always give them the rundown on what to do to make sure they don't do anything dumb. I also always have hand sanitizer nearby. There have been times when someone wanted to handle him when I didn't want them to, so I just told them I just fed. Works every time!

I'm the same! As long as I know they are completely cool with it, I'll let them hold it. My BP Levi has been around children numerous times, so he's the one I let my friends handle the most. I love letting my friends who are freaked out by snakes hold him because it shows them they are completely harmless to them if they're tame enough, and my boy is as pretty tame as he comes.
Levi is mature at the point where he isn't snappy toward anyone, but can share the same concern that you never know when a BP might become snappy toward anyone. I at least let my BP get used to his bearings out of his tank a little before passing him over to somebody. :snake:

This is me exactly. My daughters have friends over and they hold the snakes all the time. The first question I ask any new friend is what type of pets do you have at home. If there is any type of exotic that could have something that would infect my collection the snakes are off limits. None of my snakes are off limits. They are not fragile animals and my kids understand how to handle them. If my hets ever produce an albino pied I might reconsider that last statement.
When dealing with other snake people that I don't know very well I always have hand sanitizer. If possible I prefer to meet somewhere but on the rare times I have to meet them at my house I make sure in conversation that I mention the security system and Bullmastiffs. They never come inside. Maybe I'm a little paranoid.
-
I have only had two people over that actually wanted to hold one of mine. I don't know why but I was nervous about it. I knew Rocko wouldn't bite or anything. I think I was just afraid they might drop him.
-
Heh, I'm paranoid about who holds Loki... My bf is fine because well, he knows my rules, and respects them. Also the fact that he bought Loki for me as a late anniversary present... and technically its "our" snake...
Other than that, only my mom and little brother have held him... And my little brother was just because the neighbors cat was in our yard, and well... That just don't sit well with me, so I handed him Loki (after hand sanitizer) and told him to put him up and make sure to lock the cage... By the time I got back there, he still wasn't up... My little bro couldnt find the pins to lock the cage, they were right in front of him
On another hand, my dad dosen't like snakes... So, until he gets over the "if he bites me I can't promise not to harm the snake" issue, he isn't holding my extremely docile baby...
-
Re: other people handling your balls..:)
I do not let just anyone handle my bp. My boyfriend has just started to over come his fear of being bitten and he sometimes handles my snake for a few minutes.
-
I don't let even my own children hold my snakes lol. I have a male bel Mojave /lesser, a male bumble bee het ghost and a female humble bee. I told my sin today I would buy him a normal and he could hold her as much as he wants, I know it will be torture for the Snake but what choice do I have? Btw my son is 6
