Another new rescue.
Well, a friend of mine found this crawling through there front yard last night. When they called me to see if I wanted it, it had been in a rubbermaid bin in there front yard in direct sunlight since this morning. I can't wait to see if it's male or female.

Re: Another new rescue.
Very pretty normal! Congrats!! I'm glad he/she found a good home and didn't crawl through the wrong yard :O I'm sure a lot of other people would have freaked out and possibly harmed the snake... I wonder if the owner is around looking for it.

Re: Another new rescue.
They may be looking for it, I'll keep my ear to the ground. How ever, in the mean time, I'll nurse it back to health, she is underweight and dehydrated. I'm also going to administer a round of dewormer just asa precaution.

Re: Another new rescue.
Definitely! It's better than him/her roaming around outside where something could happen to it. I'm sure she'll settle in nicely with you :)

Wow.. I bet someone is freaking out right now looking for their escaped Ball Python. :( I wonder how it got out of someones home.. hopefully it wasn't released on purpose.
Good luck with her, keep us updated!

Re: Another new rescue.
Right now she is 4 ft long and weighs 1360 gms. She should be closer to 1900 grams at that length. I think shehas been wandering for quite some time. As soon as I got her in her new tank she fed on a small rat. I plan to start her off small then work up to bigger food so as not to stress her system too much. If anybody has any other advice on how to get this girl back in shape please chime in.

Well, we do have a lot of exotics running around down here in south Florida. They have evn opened a season on Burmese Pythons.

I know what you mean. On one hand, it's great that people are calling you instead of freaking out, but on the other hand, it's bad that these snakes are turning up in peoples yards.
At least the 2 rescues you have taken in won't end up in some exagerrated news story about "killer snakes" on the loose. Good job :gj:

When you say they've opened a season on Burmese Pythons, do you mean a hunting season??
-
Sounds like a hunting season..
A little off topic but since we're on Florida's Burm problems.. I really hate the way so called experts handle Burms, usually when they're talking about them in Florida, even in documentaries. They always create such a bad image of any snake by doing that and handling them like 'its either you or me, and its not gonna be me today'. Sure they are invasive and maybe they are a problem but stop making them sound like monsters or something. Ever since I've picked up snakes as pets Ive been disgusted at the image most (not all) of these so called wildlife experts etc on discovery or natgeo or anywhere give snakes and the way they handle them that way. I don't know why but they always sound really dumb to me.
Recently a wild retic was found killing a stray cat somewhere in the next town or something. And people got freaked out, the police came, animal cruelty came, and they started using sticks and hooks to piss it off in the middle of its meal. Just as it began to swallow, they decided to grab it behind its head while it 'wasn't looking'. Of course it went berserk and they decided to blow it up making it public enemy #1.

I'm glad we don't have that problem here, with invasive snakes I mean, fallow deer yes, invasive plants yes, but not reptiles...I somehow think they'd struggle to get a foot hold here...Africa has lots of things that go bump in the night as it is, lol, tough job for an invasive snake to make a living!!

Re: Another new rescue.
If you find a Burmese down here, you are required by state law to kill it and turn it in to wildlife control. Anyway, She came out of her hide last night to take a look around her new home. She seems very calm. I'm gonna offer her another small rat on sunday then start working her up towards more appropriate sized food items.

Cool!! I hope she does well with you!!
