Lowe's, Home Depot, and stores alike :) It depends on the thickness and how much you need.

I ACTUALLY JUST CAME FROM HOMEDEPOT AND THE WOOD WAS THICK, IS IT SUPPOSED TO BE THICK? OR ARE THERE THINNER SHEETS:confused:

........That's something you will have to look into. I've seen thinner sheets at both stores in my area. I'd check other stores like them in your area.

You might want a slightly thicker board if you're using mealmine. Something around 3/4" thick or so, as melamine has a tendency to sag if you have too long a run of it. By run I mean if you have a long length of it with nothing supporting it. If you look at the do-it-yourself portion of the forums you could find some really good plans on how to put a rack together. You might have to customize it to your specs but otherwise there are some great step-by-step plans there.

    Good luck!

Melamine sheets are sold only in 3/4 thickness. Anything thinner will be pre cut pieces and not in sheets.

Lowes and Home depot run about $34-38 per sheet.

Thanks, Rich. I've not priced them nor used them for building a rack before and wasn't aware of the thickness constraints. Built shelves with melamine but those were all pre-cut...anyway. Thanks! :gj:

Melamine come is a wide varity of thickness, but like already said it has a tendency to sag. I like to use prefinishe plywood. Thats sturdier than melamine and can be bought through local cabinet shops.

If you go with any wood other than melamine, you will need to seal it so moisture stays out of the wood.

Melamine only sags when built wrong. .

Prefinished asian birch is offered in many thicknesses and there is no finishing involved. Infact the finish on the plywood is a 2 part epoxy thats baked on. It is more durable than anything that can be applied at home.

These woods are nice, but the cost makes it not practical unless you have a business account at lowes/home depot or can buy a load at a time to get discount.

Most prefinished oak, birch hard plywood here in stores fur $44+ per sheed of 3/4"
