Black Snakes
Hey guys. EVerytime my dad sees a black snake dart across his feet in the yard he freaks:taz:. Its amusing to me :D and my dog licks them? But I started googling different types of jet black or close to jet black PET snakes. Just wanted a list a I dont look at colubrids ever. So I know 1. Super Cinnamon Ball Python, but thats it as far as pet snakes go. Any help is appreciated. And btw I wish eastern indigo snakes werent as guarded. I know there is alot of laws against them as pets, breeding them etc and why is that? We have some in florida and they are beautiful. Thanks

Well im pretty sure its not a super cinnamon your seeing in your back yard.

Haha I know that might not have been worded right. I was talking about what different type of jet black or close black PET snakes are out there . Its just a plain old black racer in my yard, no super cinnamons:rolleyes:.

There a lot of black snakes in the industry. Pythons, cloubrids, boas, and so on. More than i wanna go diggin up names for.

If you're just wondering what all-black snakes are available for purchase in captivity, there are a few.
Ones I can think of off the top of my head are:
Melanistic Eastern Garter Snakes
Black Milk Snakes
Mexican King Snakes
Black Rat Snakes
As for Eastern Indigos, they are difficult to purchase and rarely found being breed because they are classified as a "threatened" species. Only a few states require permits to keep them as pets but a federal permit is required to purchase them out of state within the United States.
EDIT: Super Cinnamons are not actually black. They are typically more of a brownish grey and seem to get lighter with age.

Re: Black Snakes
Thanks I just wanted a couple. I might have to help my dad calm down with ANY small black snake he sees. Its like his pet peeve. I was to lazy to look up why there are many regulations regarding eastern indigo snakes thanks for that. Well Thats all I wanted, Thanks again

You are describing super pewters. Super cinnies are black with white bellies and semi greyish/white sides.

I definitely was not referring to Super Pewters, they're more of a grey/silver. Much lighter. I've seen a few pictures of hatchling Super Cinnies that appear black, but the majority I've seen posted on here appear much lighter than true black. I could be judging their color wrong, though. Maybe I am just critical of their appearance as compared to Black Milks and others like them. ;)

Besides Mentioned Before...
If You in to the Pythons You can Consider Black Sumatran Short tail Python.. some of them Are Really really Dark...
There is Morph of Boa Called Black Boa.. Somebody was posting Pictures here not so long
Ago..
European Grass Snake (Natrix Natrix) in black with Yellow ears...
There Is couple Variations of Pretty Dark African House Snakes...
Is a lot of Choices.. Just Dig for them..:gj::gj::gj:

Like I said, I'm probably just a bit more critical of their shade of black because I admire the Black Milks and black Mexican King Snakes so much. ;) Plus, those dark black Super Cinnies shown in the video are very young, I'd be curious to see how their color holds with age/size.
As for me being up late, I'm not. :)
It's 11:51PM where I live.

Re: Black Snakes
Haha did NOT think of that. Shows how much my brain functions during summer. Well now you know what time it is where I live...and one sec Ill..... found it heres an adult http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJhYv1imsqM. and completly understood those snakes are pitch black and sweet. For me blacks, yellows, and whites on reptiles are my favorite colors. I do think they hold their color very well and dont wash out or fade like some morphs.

That's a nice, dark Super Cinnie, regardless of being in shed or not. Still not a fan of them, but to each his own. :)
