Honestly I think it really depends on 1. where your buying it (ie. Craigslist, Kingsnake, or a reputable breeder) 2. The line of pastel (blonde pastel ect.)
I usually have seen males go for $50-$150 and females anywhere from $100-$250
Just my observation. I personally sold a male breeder pastel for $75 as I didn't need him anymore.

Re: pastel price
i would have to agree it just depends on color size and the seller i paid 200 for a pair you lust have to shop around just remember you get what you pay for.

Re: pastel price
I couldn't get to Paypal fast enough to pay $300 for this female. I didn't even give it a second thought.

This is her most recent photo. I'd pay that price (and more) if I had to make the decision again.

My point is, you can get an average pastel for a relatively inexpensive price. But if you want the show stoppers in your collection and for selective breeding, you have to be willing to pay more for them.

you have to take into consideration color size and at times breeder line but most pastels ive seen for males are 150 and females 200...of course now that you see pastels het pied and so on that just kicks their prices way up there and the more het in them the more it cost

Pastels are one of those snakes that have a huge variety in color, darkness, and pattern. If I was looking for a pet I'd go with the individual snakes temperament. If I wanted to breed than I would have no problem dropping the $300.00 that rabernet spent on that HOT female.
There are several lines of pastels that different breeders came out with. I personally would like to get a lemon pastel from NERD. :D

I would go to a show and shop around if one were in your area. I remember picking up some blonde pastel females for 125.00 in 2008 and they were lookers for sure. I have had bells, blondes, lemons, and graziani line and from what i've seen the graziani and blonde pastels do not brown out as much with age. however the lemons are usually very extreme as hatchlings.

The few blonds I've seen in person have been amazing! I think they actually get better with age.

Been in contact with Markus Jayne BP's and he's trying to sell me a proven pastel female for $1500. I said that seems a little high and this was the response I got.
What is the going rate for proven breeders?
Hard for me to sell a female I can breed to a 3 gene snake and easily make way more.
Kind of rude I thought.....
Can anyone let me know some of the names of other reputable BP dealers. Looking at getting my first couple BP's.
Thanks

I plan on getting my first bp and I want a pastel aswell. I'm gonna bring $300 with me to the next reptile show in my area.

I bought a couple of 1500 gram females from josh at outback reptiles for 600 each, and they were 1500 grams after laying a week before. He has been really good to buy from as well as he doesn't just forget about you after the money is exchanged.

I got a male lemon pastel last year hes a 2010
the day i got him

3 weeks ago horrible dark lighting

he was only $50 and he looks amazing so it depends on the breeder and the need for him i think well most breeders go by quality of the bp

That doesn't seem high. Proven breeder females are in high demand and personally I get offended if someone thinks my prices are high. I charge what I feel is fair and if you don't like it buy from someone else but it is rude to question someone's pricing. You can offer less but don't tell someone their pricing is to high... Just my honest opinion on breeder females.

I dont think its wrong to give your opinion on prices. If someone came to me and said hey I really want to buy a snake from you but your double the price of others; I would consider changing my price to have a happy customer. I personally sent the creator of this post a link to a female proven pastel for $500 plus shipping. Now why would they pay $1500 for one when they can get a good looking one for $500.

I wouldn't let my breeder female pastels go for any LESS than $1500. How many breeder pastel females are available out there in the market? Markus Jayne was correct - the animal is far more valuable staying in his collection than selling it. If he's going to part with it, then the price he lets it go for needs to make it worth it to him.
It IS rude to TELL a breeder that their price is too high. It's their animal, they know what their price point is that makes it worth it to them to let the animal go.
However, there's nothing wrong with asking "would you be willing to take $XX for it?". But telling a breeder that you've seen others for less isn't cool in my book. If you've seen others for less, buy from them. You obviously liked mine better, or you would have already purchased the other less costly animal.
BTW, I don't know what line that pastel is that I posted above, nor does the breeder (he bred 2 mixed line supers to the mom, and there's no way to know which male sired her).
My other pastels are NERD lemon pastels (as verified by Kevin).

All I said is
"$1500 that seems a little high, what line of pastel is it"
Is that not a fair question? I think it is.

I don't really think what you said was rude, but maybe wording it a little differently would have been better. Maybe next time either make a counter offer of closer to what you are looking to spend. Or, if you are really far apart on what you are thinking say something like "Thanks, but that's a little more than I was hoping to spend".
BTW, I don't think the response that you got back was at all rude. You said his price high, and he basically told you that his price is what he needs to make it worth it for him to sell her.
-
I don't think it's rude to make a counter offer, but I just don't reply if someone tells me my prices are too high. I have no problem with holding onto females I can't sell...:D
As far as hatchling prices...it all depends on how they look with the pricing nowadays.

The other thing to remember is you are comparing the prices in CA to the prices in the USA Canada prices are higher. Just food for thought

I guess as a small time breeder im different. I try to be competative with pricing to offer an excellent animal at a competative price. I would invite people to tell me im too high if I was. Simply put though he asked opinions on the price of a pastel female and I say Ive never seen one as high as $1500. I think thats a bit much. They may be in high demand (which I dont think they really are) but still I can go on kingsnake right now and find a breeder female for $500-$900.
So again my opinion but I would never pay $1500 for one.

I agree, you can't compare US prices to Canadian prices. And Markus Jayne is a very reputable breeder in Canada.
But check out Reptiles Canada, I'm sure you'll find a breeder pastel in the classifieds.
