"?" About egg dimpling

So my first clutch ever is on 4 weeks and are dimpling... not majorly but 3 have small dimples.
They where laid may 12

Make sure your substrate is wet enough. If you are seeing dimpling already add some more water and make sure you have a good seal on the container . There should be condensation all the time . Not dripping on the eggs but the humidity needs to be 100% always. They will start to dimple around 50-55 and that is normal.

Well the humidity is at 99% since placed into the incubator
And the 3 dimpling are closest to the heat source.
And have gained weight and veins are nice and plump looking!

And between 50-55 days? I have been under the impression that they dimple around 2 weeks before hatching?

I usually start noticing more dimpling about 3 weeks before the eggs are due to hatch. Usually just minor dimpling then but dimpling, nonetheless.

If your eggs are drying out, you might try draping some dampened sphagnum moss over the eggs to help insulate them a little more against moisture loss. I like to put big clumps of moist sphagnum moss to gravid females close to their due date because it helps hold humidity around their nest site. I've also got a clutch of jungle carpet eggs right now that are being incubated in nothing but sphagnum moss. I love the stuff. ;)

I was honestly thinking maybe that was the problem.
Because the 4 on the bottom still look very plump.
and this is the second time someone suggest shagnum moss.. I think I should do that...

Yeah mine don't dimple until the last 2 weeks usually. Even then, it's just the top begins to sink a little and the shell gets softer.

Ok I guess I worded that wrong. Yeah they will start to dimple some around 2 weeks but you will see the eggs really dimple and deflate around 50. We never tried the moss idea although we always had good humidity. Good luck with your eggs.

Thanx! Yeah it seems strange to use the moss idea but meh. I don't have none so im gonna use a couple paper towels dry
I used did that to absorb the moisture from under the eggs. And they get pretty damp. Not soaking just damp. Thanks for your replies! Id hit the thank button but im on my phone and there's no thank button

don't mean to jack your thread but my clutch is 17 days from hatch date and I have one egg that has some dimpling. this same egg dimpled within the first couple days but then went away. now it's back. i don't understand why though, the humidity is at 98% and all the other eggs have not had any dimpling problems during the entire process.

any ideas?

No worries! That's what this forums for is questions and stuff!

Well no clue why it dimpled then went away but one idea is amongst this time in the incubation. The eggs start to become warmer in the eggs then the ambient around the eggs. This causes condensation (fogy like on the container) and that's when you start to see major dimpling.

Try candleing
If you can see the dark mass on the bottom of the egg than your probably gonna start seeing all the eggs collapsing.
You can also try the sphagnum moss trick.

Now you have me wondering about my eggs! Mine are dimpled and the substrate it mostly water. like the OP said,it is the ones closest to the heat. They are also from May 12th.

Seal the box with plastic, your humidity is probebly not high enough.

If that doesn't work then I would use just vermiculite that is just wet enough that there is no water coming out en then seal the box.

(I'm talking about clutches that are not even 40 days old, after 40 days most eggs will dimple)

Well the egg box is sealed air tight and humidity is at 99%.
Since day 1 at 99% and 88.4-88.9 using zoomed reptibator!
I used the" !" On that last sentence to let anyone know that this Is a reliable product. Flimsy but reliable.

And I have them on a screen separating the eggs from vermiculite.
The vermiculite is very wet and no condensation on the top of the container nor the eggs.

Here they are right before they went in the incubator on may 14
(They were laid the 12th around 1230am)
My incubator didn't show up till the 14th.

The top three are dimpled and the bottom 4 aren't.
That's why im thinking they are gonna hatch a little premature.

But I can see what look like little snake bodies in those three and the other four kinda see a tail or something... so not too worried.
