Opinion-- 50% het pied super pastel
    Hello All,

Just a fun post to get some opinions. I have a 500 gram male super pastel who is 50% possible het for pied. I know the het pied "marker" is overdone, but we'll hopefully find out when he breeds a pied female next year.

What's your opinion on his "marker"? It's coin toss and I know that wildtypes often have markers and 100% het for pied often do not... but it's fun to speculate.

I would love to hear input on the photo.

    Best,

    CDM
(--crossing my fingers that he's het. pied, but If not he's still gorgeous)

Just to let you know, that picture is incredibly tiny! I can hardly see it, lol.

Good luck with your project. Those look like the markers to me. Hope it works out. I just love them. I want a nice pied for myself in the future. Not for any projects but to care for and to spoil rotten:D

Even if he does not prove out, he looks gorgeous from what I can see!

Here's the thing.. Almost all pastels have these "markers" to some extent due to the clean belly pattern. It isn't a good way to tell with morphs that have clean bellies because it's such a common pattern in them.

I agree. It is more difficult in visible morphs. Here's a pic of a female not het for pied who has a similar pattern-- but reduced....? What do you think?

I've proven and disproven several Pastel poss het Pied females and from my experience the makers are much more reliable on normals hets than they are on the Pastels.

Based on the pic, I'd say its a bit of a long-shot, but better chance than if I saw those markers on a non-pastel... does that make sense?
