Not sure what she has managed to get on her head. I tried wiping away the black smudge on her head and she wanted no part of it... so the speck stays for now.
Anyway, she laid 5 big eggs. :) I'm very happy with her and so far she's proving to be a very good mother and doesn't seem to mind me checking in on her or the clutch (as opposed to the mom on Clutch #2...she wants to kill the camera). I'll let her get some rest and get comfortable with her clutch for a few days before I try to get any new pics.

Congratulations! Now the long 60 day wait. I am sure you will get some beautiful babies :)

Re: Henna's Clutch
Congrats it sucks waiting i'm on day 37 and no eggs yet i hope she isn't egg bound good luck with the clutch.
-
Holy cow, those are massive eggs lol like she laid small rats. How u hit odds and get like 1.3 albinos lol and a het :D
-
LOL Thanks, guys. They are pretty big. I was comparing them to the other clutch I'm waiting on and they look nearly twice as big! :D I'll definitely be looking forward to seeing what hatches from these.
-
congrats :D and wow those are some big eggs

Happy to report that Henna does not seem to mind me checking in on her and candling her clutch. It's a nice switch from my other female who's brooding in the tub next door and wants to take my hand every time I go to refill her water bowl. lol
I only got a couple pics because I didn't want to disturb her too much. I also tried offering her a rat weanling tonight and she showed some interest but didn't take it. I'll offer food again next feed day. ;)

Re: Henna's Clutch
We're at 22 days and I figured I'd get a few new pics.

It's still a bit early to tell if there are albinos or hets cooking in there. Henna really doesn't want to loosen her coils, either, and I have no reason to take her off the clutch. Oh well. Surprises are always nice. ;)

Those last few pics are just awesome

Tried to get a shot of Henna feeding today but missed it. I got a shot of her coiling the rat but I had to go out of the room to help one of my kids. I was only gone for a minute or two but when I got back and opened her tub to get a pic of her swallowing the rat was already gone! So the last shot is just Henna and her wrinkly clutch. Grrr..

Re: Henna's Clutch
:D Good luck with the odds,.. I always enjoy your threads. I have a Het Alb Female ready to go but the male I got for her is not,.. hopefully by the end of the year. If not,.. she has more time to grow, no rush.
-
Very cool. Not sure why I never saw this thread the first couple of times. Hope the odds hit for you!

Candled a couple of the eggs yesterday (day 45) and I'm wondering if one of these might be an albino.
Certain that this one is a het. Don't mind all the background noise. It's my partner playing around with the kids. Still waiting for the audioswap to take effect.

This one, I'm thinking may be an albino..? I'm not sure because I've never had an albino ball in egg before. There's a lot of pink and I don't think I see any pattern. Then again, it could just be at an odd angle where I don't see pattern. Guess we'll see in another two weeks or so.

Looking great, cant wait for a couple of little binos to come out to play!!!
-
It's amazing to see her eat while still caring for her eggs. Thanks for sharing and hope you get a few albinos!
-
will be cool to see the results!

*Watches thread*
Can't wait to see what hatches! :D
-
The eggs are getting a lot softer and more pliable now. The extra-wrinkly one feels like a thick water balloon at the moment. lol Henna is going into a shed cycle and I'm hoping she's not in complete blue when these guys start hatching. She's been a sweetheart this whole time. Hopefully foggy vision won't change her attitude too much.

Re: Henna's Clutch
This is so interesting! The main argument I've always heard against maternal incubation is that it's hard on the female to go without food for that long. Looks like that's out the window :gj: Can't wait to see what comes out of those eggs!
-
I've seriously been dreaming about my eggs hatching over the past several days and I knew they should be hatching any day now. I just dropped my kids off at their aunt's and as soon as I got home I went straight to the snakes to check in with Henna and her clutch. I saw not one albino head looking at me but two! I really wish I had the camera with me for that first glance. It was so cute because both were looking directly at me! I was so excited it took me a few seconds to realize my camera was actually right in front of me at the rack because I wanted to be ready for baby pics as soon as they started hatching. lol
I'm not going to bother her for a little while yet but here's what I'm ooohing and awwing over at the moment.

Oh and Henna shed just a few days ago so she's actually looking really nice for her photo this time around. I'll check in again in an hour or so and see if there are any other eggs pipping and photo ops.

Re: Henna's Clutch
awww thats so adorable :P. that henna looks like a real big sweety. i'm surprised she ate while incubating cuz everything i've read/heard has said that females will not eat if they have eggs with them.

It was the same for me when I started breeding in 2008. I tried feeding once during that first time and when she refused, I assumed it was normal and didn't offer again until the day her eggs hatched because of what I'd been told or read. I wish I had listened more to my gut then. Just because it's in a book or is information handed down from another breeder who's been in the business for a decade or more doesn't mean it's infallible.
I've tried to get plenty of feeding pics this year to help debunk some of the misinformation that's out there. Some girls are slow to start eating again and you might have to try a variety of prey items or ways of offering meals in order to coax them back onto feed but that, to me, is no different than getting any other new mom back to eating. The only difference being that mine are still brooding their clutches. As long as the girls are comfortable, there's no reason why they shouldn't resume feeding while brooding. The egg scent doesn't make them refuse meals so long as the eggs are still present.
Thanks for the compliment. This is Henna's first year breeding and she really is one of the sweetest snakes here. Of all the females I've been breeding, she's the only one I raised from baby to adult and the very first morph I ever bought. The other girls I've been given or purchased as sub-adults or adults. It makes this clutch a little extra special. :D

They are so pretty. I have been following this thread!! My favourite is Henna and the little face poking between her coils. Beautiful clutch and congrats!

Re: Henna's Clutch
tried to crawl back into its own egg then under a siblings egg?
:P that is too funny.
"i change my mind! i dont wanna be hatched yet!"

The last three finally decided to vacate their eggs. With this being her first year breeding and brooding, I'm very proud of Henna. She's been a great mom. :)

Looks like we wound up with 1 albino male (my keeper), 1 male het and 3 female hets. I really wish there had been a female albino in here as well so I could send her off to my friend since that's all she really wanted out of this clutch. Hopefully the pied/het pied clutch will have better odds for us.

Great thread, the pic of the baby albino peeking from beneath mamma's coils is priceless!
