I had to share my excitement! I got my 3rd Jetta today!
I've been looking for cars since December, but wasn't having a lot of luck because my budget doesn't really allow for a lot of wiggle room-once my student loans start-to not live paycheck to paycheck. I was getting a bit down about it because I was only able to afford a $13k car with a 6 year loan. Then the dealer I've been working with since December came up with this idea...

    2011 VW Jetta (2.5 SE)
    http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t...ther/021-2.jpg

I got $50 off a month because of the color, I told them brown was all wrong...lol but it's not that bad.

And it's a manual with heated seats, the only other thing I wanted was a sunroof. I think the inside looks pretty neat! You can talk to the car and it will call people! It's sweet! I love my Jettas!

I like the floor mats too :P
    http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t...ther/024-2.jpg

The backseats don't touch the back of the front seats anymore!
    http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t...ther/025-1.jpg

I forgot to take a picture of the back before it got dark and rainy.

You can't possibly know how envious I am right now. I'm completely addicted to VW. The CC is my dream car but I'm in love with Jettas and Passats.

    Congratulations! Jettas are amazing!

That's awesome! Good for you! I like the VW's; they're great cars and hold up very well. I don't know that I would ever drive one, as the small amount of masculine pride I have remaining, lol! :D Good for you and that's a sharp looking car!

Oh I know! My original plan was to get the '11 Jetta back before I graduated, but working at a job that doesn't require a 4 year degree kind of squashed those dreams and I was jealous of every person driving an '11. But then I regained my dream, my dealer was awesome!

Like I said this is my third Jetta, they are awesome cars and I hope to keep with the VWs, eventually I might upgrade to Audi since they are virtually the same car, just upgraded.

Thank you! They are great, the Jetta I had before this one is 11 years old with 162,000 miles on it. I've never once been left on the side of a road because of a VW. They are made well and last a long time if you just take care of them!

I can understand the masculinity challenge that tends to go along with a VW :) This style is pretty sweet though, and it is plenty roomy compared to previous models! ;)

I agree! They did a great job with the colors and the design! I read a review that the '11s were really nice on the outside, but they spent all their money on that and slacked on the interior. I have to disagree, especially when you compare it to past models! Besides, it's an economy car, it's $22k brand new and loaded. VW does a great job spending money where it's important. It even shuts off the passenger airbags depending on the weight of the person in the seat! Maybe all the new ones do that, but it's pretty cool!

On a side note, Did you guys notice how weird they made the gas pedal?! It's connected on the floor, and is a huge long peddle. It's really weird when you look at it, but you don't notice when you drive it. It's hard to see since it blends in, but you'll see the clutch, the break, then a long piece that looks like a weird part of the floor mat. :rolleye2:

Thank you! And I agree 100%! I've only had one auto and I only kept it for 8 months. It's getting really hard to find manuals though...and this one is what I would consider a cheater clutch as I'm pretty sure it's an electronic/computer clutch. But I suppose finding a good old fashioned clutch is going to be pretty tough as the years go on. This clutch is a huge difference from my uncle's 3-on-the-tree '55 Dodge!

I learned to drive a 3 on the tree 78 ford pick up. I drive a 2005 dodge ram right now and I have been thinking about getting a car for gas mileage. My problem is I fell in love with the interior feel of my brothers BMW 300 series. Does anyone have any suggestions for a smaller car that fits a beefy guy that is 6'6" that does not cost as much as a BMW.

    That's awesome! :P

I really wanted a used BMW because of all the perks, but a 4 year old BMW costs just as much as a brand new Jetta! I think you should check out Audi, they are pretty much a VW with different emblems. Even the interior is pretty similar. Of course the quality is much nicer. I'm not sure if they are any less than a beemer though.

6'6'' is huge! lol. No way could you fit in my old Jetta. My dad is 6'2'' and he rode in the backseat of this Jetta and had plenty of room. Sorry I don't have any other ideas for cars, I'm a German fan :) Most of my heritage from generations ago is German, so maybe that's the problem. My closest immigrant family member is my granny who is straight off the boat from Italy, but I can't afford any of those cars! lol.

That's an easy hangup to get around - buy an Audi instead. A3 = Golf/Rabbit with nicer interior, A4 = Passat with nicer interior and (IMO) better exterior styling. Also, it's more common to find the Audi versions in 4WD/Quattro, if that's important to you, plus they tend to have a slightly sportier suspension setup than the VW equivalents; firm but not uncomfortable.

All praise aside, however, be aware that VW/Audi cars can be expensive to maintain and repair. I had a simple coolant leak cost me $600 this winter. ($100 or so in parts, $500 in labor because the parts that needed changing are apparently a royal pain to get at, taking several hours of labor taking apart other stuff before you can access them.)

That's definitely true, but IMO it's totally worth it. The two major things I've done to my [old] Jetta that is 11 years old with 162,000 miles was AC and coil packs/spark plugs. Both very expensive, and I wouldn't have done the AC, but my mom wanted it done since they were buying it, so she paid for it. That car still has the same engine, same transmission, same clutch, same turbo. It has no rust on the body, I live in Iowa with lots of salt on the road, and I didn't drive it nicely...it has a turbo what can I say :) Oh, and the whole front end was creamed by an old man a couple years ago causing 4k in damage! I'll defend VW any day!

Thank you! You have great taste in cars :P I'm glad you like the color! It's growing on me.

Impressive that a clutch would last 162K miles - you must have been pretty gentle with it and/or just been lucky.

Funny, the coil packs were a recall and therefore free on my A4. Seems odd that VW wouldn't do the same. Of course, on the other hand, I've had to do a fair amount of other stuff on it that was expensive in the time I've owned it. Rear brakes a while ago (pads *and* rotors), doing the fronts at my next service, T-belt, vac leak, coolant leak, it all adds up. That said, I do love my car, even though whenever it comes time to fix it I hate paying for it.

Lots of little stuff has gone wrong with it, but OTOH, it has never stranded me. I guess it depends on how you define "reliable" whether it is or not. It sometimes feels like I'm always paying to fix it, but it always gets me where I'm going.
