Got him!!

So I got my first BP today. My daughter and I drove up to Birmingham and she got to pick him out. I wanted to get a 2011 but she like this one the best. He's been eating live fuzzy mice so I have to figure out how to get him onto frozen rats. Right now he is in a 10gl tank. When he outgrows that, I already have a 36" Neodeshia here for him. They said he is a Pastel but he looks normal to me. He is a mover, been exploring this tank all day and hasn't gone into his hides once. The place we got him from kept him a "Kritter Keeper" that didn't have a hide so I guess he's not use to them. I also got my thermostats so everything in the tank is going great. Here are a few pics.

Definitely not pastel, but pretty nonetheless, congrats :gj:

Well, as long as you love your new snake, don't be too sad. Though, if I were you, I'd at least call the people you bought him from and question them about it. I could be wrong, because the pictures do not show the whole body, but it definitely appears to be a normal. If he is indeed a normal male, then you probably would've paid much less than if he were labeled a pastel male. He does appear to have nice flames though! :)

Yea I love his markings. He is very very pretty. The sex is unknown. I just said him just because but they did assume me that they don't have anything that is not captive breed. This is the "trusted" pet shop here as they often go to the show in Birmingham to get their animals. But who knows honestly. Either way I like him and I just hope I can easily get him on f/t rats.

Ok..I'm not trying to start any fights...

but I've started to notice a trend...of people buying "morphs" who don't know what the morphs look like...
and vendors claiming things are morphs that obviously aren't. (Which in my opinion is the worse of the two)

Just my personal opinion, but I wouldn't head to a reptile show looking to pick up my first snake without knowing what at least a few base morphs look like so that I wouldn't and COULDN'T be put in a situation where I got ripped off.

Either way, good luck with him. He looks like a nice normal. :)

We went to go get a ball python this was the smallest one they had, we wanted a small one to raise as a pet. thats what we got. The seller just said hey this is a Pastel so he's $100 not the normal $60 I charge for his size. We got a small ball python and paid more for it. But we like it.

It's cool that you got what you want, don't get me wrong...but I'd still be a little more peeved about being ripped off for $40...
especially on a normal male. $100 for a female that nice isn't that bad, but a male?

Not trying to promote a birmingham show here or anything, but if you are having the kind of luck you are with pet stores check out the Dixie Reptile Show. The man that runs the show is very knowledgable and if there was an animal in question such as this, he would have made the situation right before you ever left. In other words, you wouldn't have been sold a normal as a pastel.

Honestly when I purchased my first ball python I knew nothing about the cost. I just wanted one. I could have been ripped a new one easily. All I know is that I wanted one and I would have payed a $100 dollars and not felt bad about it. Luckily I only paid $50. I wouldn't take nothing for him now.
