boa died because of pet store ! :( this is outragous

me and my boyfriend bought a boa a month ago er so from pets unlimited in newfoundland, i noticed he was having trouble eating and was acting funny after a little while, i told my boyfriend we needed to bring him to the vet but i had to wait a lil bit til he came home from work with the money for it .
i went out one night at 5pm came home 10am next morning to a dead snake... i knew i didnt do anything wrong .. so i went into the pet storee to buy another one for my bf outta the same clutch when i went in i asked to buy one and they told me they couldnt sell them becuase they were sick with mouth rott and havent been able to sell them the last month and ahalf yet they sold me mine.. i got very angry and called pets unlimited head office i got a call back the next day while i was at a different pets unlimted to bu8y a bearded dragon and thats were the head person was to so i went up to front casha nd was talking to her they tolld me they shouldnt have done that and told me to bring in my recipte i wasnt able to find my recipte yet so i called she told me only other way was to bring in the DEADSNAKE.. i told them they were nuts cuz i burried the snake 2 days before..and i wasnt digging it up outta his grave ... so now they wont do anything for me even kno the pet store has thecopy of the recipte on hand ! this is an outrage to me... can anybody help me out on tips on what i may be able to do

also my snake wasnt even very old ! im so upset becuase of this, i have 2 other very healthy snakes and gecko , they shouldnt have young people who dont kno muchabout reptiles working at a store.. another pet store just opened here and they haveCEDAR bedding in with a bby corn snake, this is unreal !:rage:

If they wanted the snake, I would have brought them the snake. Sorry for your loss. You should keep all receipts for animals purchased.

I'm sorry about your boa. I don't think there is much the store will do though. Is there any chance you paid with a credit/debit card? Maybe they can work with you if you can show a statement transaction at their store for the amount of the snake.

I would avoid that pet store like the plague...literally! A whole litter of baby boas sick and dying? Screams of IBD.

I'm terribly sorry for your loss. Were I in your shoes, I would wash my hands (quite literally as well!) of the whole mess and move on. I'd throw away anything that baby boa came into contact with and carefully isolate any other boas or pythons your might have and watch them very carefully.

If you want a boa, please, please buy one from a reputable breeder. I'd never buy a boa from a pet store or some random person.

Nobody should be selling sick animals. But mouthrot is fairly easy to spot before it gets to the stage of killing a snake through the infection so they should have seen it.

Then again you should have contacted the store as soon as you noticed something was wrong - some stores would have either replaced the animal or have had a vet recommendation and be willing to help with the cost.

But I can see where they are coming from with the receipt thing - you would face the same issue with any other purchase.

If you paid by credit card or bank card etc that might be acceptable to them as proof of purpose if you take in a statement showing the charge.

Basically all they are looking for is some form of proof of purchase - they might have 2000 reciepts from that day and, unless it specifically said " for a boa" or didn't have any other items to change the total payable at the bottom they would have a heck of a time finding it with any certainty. Your card details would let them find it fairly easily though.

That was also behind the request for the snakes body, it wasn't because they doubted it had died, in all likelyhood it was just proof that you had bought a boa.

Provided all is as you say, dig up the snake and ask for a refund. Then get one from a breeder.

we paid some on debit but not all . they changed there minds and said they dont wanna see the snake now, only the recipt from their store, im soo outranged by this, it was my boyfriends first snake and he loved it i been taking care of it since we got it til he got back and he learned how to care for them properly, hes use to helping mewith my other two .. theytold me the only way i will get a new one or giftcard with theamount on it would be to bring in the papers that we signed .. im so sick of pet stores, also they shouldnt have young people working there who hardly kno anything about them ..
i went and bought a leather back bearded dragon for him so he comes back tonight hopefully he will like it i told him when we move out into our new place im gonna get another red tail boa!! they r beautiful and i miss ash so much he was aborable and loved chillin on our shoulders and everything, and ihave the recipt somewhere in my room , if it wasnt for the fact i have 4 tanks in my room nowand the heat in unreal cuz its a medium size room plus my parents always have heat on max ! i would have a new boa tomorrow !

i just think when they hire people for pet stores they should do background about animals and them , cause i kno for a fact a lot of ppl workin at pet stores hardly kno about the repitles, when i ent to look at a new boa and the bearded dragon they made me take the snake outtathe viv cuz none of them would cuz they werescared!! no wonder why the snakes are visious at pet stores down heree ! its a sin! i wish there were more people where im located to in newfoundland that are good with reptiles like me .. ! i cant wait to move out to get my boa (december hopefully) and maybe get another bearded dragon:) . i have a ball python now, a corn snake and a leopard gecko and my beardie ! i love reptiles just wish icould find more people like me in my area !!

also i have al my animals on watch now, if im not homee my mom watches them, and i argree from now on im only buying from a well own breeder, might cost me more money cuz i will have to get it shipped hereif they do!

I'm afraid I don't know the legislation in your country but over here stores will basically lie to your face and say they cannot refund money only offer credit or replacements.

Once you quote the law however they usually have the sense to give in.

But I would make it a priority to find that reciept as they may try and claim a time limit on the problem.

Look up the laws relating to faulty goods ( which is sadly what an already sick animal falls under in most cases ) and be prepared to be polite but firm if they are not complying with it.

But get your paperwork so you can prove what you bought and when if push comes to shove.

she told me just then cuz its only 15 day warrently here, she told me take my time dont stress just find the recipt and they will give me a giftcard with the money on it whenever i find it .. but the worse thing is my bf is who signed for it and hes leaving to go away for a couple months soon so im screwed ifi dont find it while hes in town ! :(..

Shoulda dug up the snake. I would have done it in a heart beat. Throw it in their face, get your money back, and never buy from there again!
