The Jacksonville Zoo, in Jacksonville Florida has had a very large African Rock Python for several years.
It's 12' easy, but looks to be heck of a lot larger. It was huge when I saw it in 2001, and they still had it when I was there in 2008.

I saw a wild one a few months back! They're reasonably common in Durban, because of the very large sugar can plantations. I saw one when I went to visit my uncle, he stays outside of the city, and it's pretty wild, a nesting site for 4 million Barn Swallows, you get a lot of Bush Buck there too, which may just be why you get Rock Pythons there! The one I saw was crossing the dirt road, it was pretty big, I'd say 12 to 14 feet long! Nice and thick too!!

It is a nice treat to see them!!! They've caused some problems for rural Natal communities, about 6 years ago now, a 5 year old girl got eaten by one, while picking mangoes with her brother!! Bare in mind that this was deep in the midlands!

The sad thing about them living so close to the built up areas is that they sometimes lie on the dirt roads at night to warm up, and people taking a short cut through the sugar cane or bush drive over them...Luckily they're totally protected here, so killing one on purpose is a massive fine, jail, or both!

Sorry if I'm hijacking, I thought this might add some value for people who don't know all that much about them.

When summer comes around again I'll try find one and get a pic or two, but I'll be honest, the wild ones scare me a little, lol!!! They don't play games, if you get too close the make a huge noise, sometimes it actually sounds like growling!!!

And the wild ones WILL bite if you harass them!!! I've seen two wild ones in my whole life, but I can post pics of plenty puff adders, house snakes, heralds and the like when summer arrives in September!!!
