There is no way to tell for sure if it is het or not just by looking at it. You have to grow him up and breed him to know.

When I first joined BP.net some time ago, I recall a thread (with pics) about certain albinos that, when producing clutches that can yield normals and hets (so het to normal, or het to het), the het albinos hatched out looking almost axanthic, but changed color to look pretty darn normal shortly after their first shed.

There has been bits and pieces of evidence of some of the "recessive" traits actually displaying some visual differences in the heterozygotes, and ever since that one thread I read I've wondered if it would be possible to visually distinguish between a het albino and a normal, as adults, if we just knew what to look for.

Of course yours could just be very pretty and nicely colored as well.. :D

Hard to say, but I'm guessing if you bought him as a het Albino, that's what he is! It's unlikely they would "accidentally" sell you a fire, unless maybe you got him 3rd-hand (as opposed to directly from the breeder). He slightly resembles my super-light normal, Nerissa, who is 100% normal as far as I know... they really can have a WIDE variety in their coloring.

    Here's Nerissa, for comparison:

He looks normal to me. You will have to breed him to a het albino or albino female to really know if he is het for sure! I have heard some people say that het albinos have a brighter white outlining their pattern but his is not a for sure way to tell!

Great looking snake, but I agree...if it was sold as a het albino, then that is more than likely all that it is. Most breeders keep better records of their snakes than just to let one go like that. Good luck proving him out though!

His sickness? Maybe I missed something but you should keep him far away from other snakes, I see you took a picture of him with another snake? Not a good idea :colbert: Even a little exposure can spread sicknesses.

I would say he's just a het albino - as other's have said, some hets have been known to look brighter, have more blushing etc than their normal counterparts. Also normals vary greatly and can be light or dark. He's pretty!

I agree with the others, if he is sick you need to get him away from your other snake(s) ASAP. Moving him to another room would be best, and always washing hands between snakes. No cross contamination till he's better ;) If he is ill with a respiratory infection he more than likely needs antibiotics.

3 weeks is perfectly normal. I've had some go longer and some shorter. Don't be worried! Even if he had RI recently still keep him away from others, there's just too big a risk that it could spread.
