Coloring

Just had a quick question. The baby normal colombian RTBs that are the light gray color, do they brown/tan out when they get older or are the tan similar boas a different locality/morph? Sorry for the vague question, I am just curious if they brown out I guess. They just vary so much I can honestly not tell one from another in pictures.

I've seen older ones that were really grey and some that were browner- but I never seen them as babies so I really don't know if there was a change and if so how dramatic. Sorry. I wish I could help. :(

I read some where, I don't remember where, that some subspecies brown out more than others. I think it was the smaller ones that tend to brown out more. I could be completely wrong on both facts though as I don't remember where I read it.

My Columbian was very grey as a baby and now he is brown but I think he is prettier now cause he has more pinks and oranges down his body then he did as a baby. Both these pics are in direct sunlight so he looks very light greyaround his saddles but he is more brown normally.

Awww thanks for the pictures. I'm definitely going to get more boas when the time is right, and one that I keep going back to is just the basic colombian boas. They just look so cute with light grays and dark saddles and mustache lol. Them browning out won't stop me from getting one, I was just curious if that's always the case.

I can't say if that's always the case but it definitely happened to my boy. My only other experience with boas is with a hypo so I can't really say if it always happens

Yeah the only boa I have is albino, but he's already changed color a bunch since I got him. He's getting more pink speckles than he had just a couple months ago.

My friend has one that browned out really bad. He was a little disappointed at first but soon noticed the same thing kb1290 pointed out with his snake, she had way more orange and pink as she got darker.

Everything I've read says that its very difficult if not impossible to tell how a snake will look as an adult. It doesn't even seem to matter what the parents looked like when it comes to coloring.

If you want less browning out then look for a very light pastel. There are BCI morphs that improve on the adults coloration so you don't end up with a bland colored boa.

Yes, I've heard that the pastels and/or hypos tend to keep the salmon pinks and redder saddles as adults more so than the greys. But I don't have actual experience with that - it's only what I've heard. But that's partly why I decided on my little hypo - I kind of wanted to see if that was true, lol.

I'm definitely going to get more boas too - color doesn't matter. I can't believe how fascinating they are! ;)

Thanks for all the replies :) I ask out of curiousity because I just love the look of the babies when they are a nice light gray with dark saddles, dark red tail and little mustache and goatee lol. I guess if I got one I wouldn't mind what color he/she turned out to be.

Jungles are also nice! They change color--but it turns into a vibrant gold color rather than dull brown! It's quite beautiful!! Plus with how clean many jungles are, it's quite excellent!

Your albino will have alot of yellow later on. Usually an albino will lose alot of it's red in the saddles and tail. But, don't worry they stay beautiful!
