I have a question for those who are experienced with breeding blood pythons. What is breeding size for male and females? I read numerous caresheets and most said 3-5 feet so I take it 4.5-5 feet for females and the earliest for males is 3' but was trying to see if someone has a better measurement to go by.

I cant wait to get to the states and be able to interact with her. My father cares for them while Im gone and said that she is perfectly tame and kids come over and hold her. 5 more months =D

Age is more important with bloods, than size. Females need to be at least three years old to breed, and often we'll wait until a female is 3.5 or 4 years old before we put her into our lineup. We consistently have better first-year results with girls who are given the extra time to grow up a bit more.

We've had males that were ready to go quite young by comparison, but really prefer them to be at least 2.5 or 3 years old - again, much better results with giving them the extra time.

Our breeder adults are in the 4' - 5.5'+ range, length-wise, and range between 12 - 15 lbs. Some of our biggest girls are over 6' and weigh 20 lbs or so.

    HTH!

It's funny...most bloods you see these days are actually of Sumatran descent. From time to time you'll see them labeled for sale as "Malaysians," but the people who can also provide legit proof of locale data on such snakes are few and far between. Malaysians haven't been imported with regularity for well over a quarter-century now, and the vast majority of bloods that have been available in the herp trade in the past 10-15 years descended from Sumatran stock.

Just a little tidbit on blood python history. :)

Thanks Kara for all the information. I'll try finding out how old she is but if I cant then I'm forced to go by only size and I think she will be able to go this year. As far as her locality goes, I apologize she was labeled as Malaysian so I figured it was known where she came from but now that you shared that information with me it looks otherwise haha
