Found a pretty one herping today!
Was out turkey hunting today and almost stepped on this guy ;)

He seems very tame and is a real cuddler ;) He makes a purring sound when i pet him!

    Anyone know what this is?

Yepper its a pygmy. Funny thing was I didn't think we had them up here in North GA. I've come timber rattlers but not a pygmy...the rattle was soooooo small....

To be honest - you could not get him to strike....he put up with my minor annoyance like a champ. .BUT - a good reminder to wear good boots in the woods - even in GA...

Cartersville. 45 miles or so north of ATL...up 75.

Just down the road i saw DOZENS of homes flattened by the tornados of earlier this week. I was really sobering.

that is definitely a find for sure in that area. I used to herp a whole lot around bartow since my mom lived in acworth. I guess it goes to show that they can pop up in the most unlikely places.

Yeah he wants to cuddle alright, cuddle you right into a nice warm hospital bed. You got yourself a nice lil pygmy alright. Nice find. Nice pict. Thanx for sharing. Haven't seen one of those in awhile. Last time I saw one of those I was launching my airboat off a levy and the lil bugger had made itself comfy right under the grassrake. tisk tisk

yup, that good 'ol kiss of DEATH!

cuddly my butt! he'll be cuddling you while sinkin' them pearly whites into your skin!

he is really gorgeous though but growing up in california has taught me one thing...
er, well, my dad taught this to me actually...

"oh look at the pretty little rattlesnake just chillin' there. what's he doin' with his tail? oh he wants to talk to me..."

then outta no where he busts out a shovel and...:tombstone.
sorry folks but my dad gave no second chances to a rattler that got caught too close to the house. i never understood why he didnt just use the shovel to scoop it up and toss it back over the fence or something. but he always said
"once they find a cozy spot they'll keep coming back to it and someday one of you girls is gonna get bit cuz you dont know they're there until your darn near steppin' on it."
i always felt sorry for them.
i've been blessed to not have come across anything since moving here to SC.

ok yeah so it's better to observe this beauty from a good out-of-strike-range distance.
