    Weird BP Bite on YouTube
Found this on YouTube and I'm wondering why a BP would bite like this.

Maybe his hands smelled like rats. I have never seen one just decide " hey I think ima bite ya" lol

    Hi,

He pretty much explains it in the video - for some reason it thinks he is dinner.

He might smell like it for example if he had handled a furry pet earlier and forgotten to wash his hands.

There may just be the smell of food in the air if he is defrosting some for later - I know my snakes are a lot more keyed up on feeding day even before I put the food out to thaw.

So, on feeding day, I either don't handle them or take a few precautions so they know they aren't getting fed. ;)

Haha. My 1200g pastel boy did the same thing on my forearm, except I feed him live so he was a little more vicious :D

That snake clearly looked like he was searching for food when he opened the tub, so I agree that he was probably just handling rats, or there is a strong rat scent in the room.

I just assumed that they would make more of a strike - shows ya how much I know, lol.

Some of my more "special" little guys occasionally do that and don't really start constricting until the rat moves.

LOL Hilarious! I agree with the others. The snake thought the knuckle was a rodent.

Well, at least the guy wasn't one of those jerks who freak out over nothing.

That is exactly how my husbands big female bit him, just opened her mouth and "Chomp".

I like how he calls their teeth fangs though.

That looks uncomfortable. I've gotten bit a couple times but always a defensive striking sort of bite.

I just love how casual both the snake and it's owner were acting. It was funny.

Maybe the snake was thinking," Oh! there's that camera thing again. Maybe he wants me to do something interesting. How's this?"

One of my normals tried doing that last night because I picked him up to change his substrate and then realized he's starting to shed (pink belly stage). He gets extremely agitated when shedding, unlike my other one, so when I saw his belly I went to put him down and as I moved one of my hands to move his hide he very slowly tried to bite it but missed and hissed a little. He didn't strike or try to bite again, just seemed like a warning telling me he didn't want to be handled!

I have seen that one before. I think he says a new snake. So look like a very hungry snake, new owner that doesn't know how or if it was handled before. And a steady and slow bite like one of my take a ft rat...

I got bit like that from a rescue that was left in an apartment for a few months after the owner left.

I picked it up to check out its overall health, it looked at my middle finger right before the knuckle open its mouth and missed. Then it did it again and wouldn't let go for close to 5 minutes.

I have been taking care of him since and haven't got bit again. He was just really hungry.

the guy was not really helping the snake by moving his hand around, that was probly making the snake think it "got a live one", hence it feeling the need to constrict the hand.
plus doesnt this guy know that the teeth curve backwards? apparently not, with the way he was trying to pull the snake off his knuckle.
when being held onto like that dont ya have to kind of push into the snakes mouth to unhook the teeth?

The only thing that I disagreed with was him saying "this is what happens when a snake has only been feeding on live". I only feed live, and none of mine have ever decide to just bite like that.

Deborah has a cute picture of her baby pied that tried to eat her thumb. Maybe she'll see it and post it up!

LOL...I saw a few things I winced at. I agree with Robin about his comment on live feeding. That's just nonsense. I also think he got himself into more trouble because he got impatient and tried to mess with the snake again....when he had it in the tub and no longer wrapped around his hand...he should have just sat still and waited it out. But he tried to "encourage" the snake to let go again, which just made it want to work harder to hold on.

I do appreciate his respect for the animals though, and his gentleness with a creature that was obviously hurting him. :)

I agree that the feeding method has absolutely no effect on the animal's behavior. My strictly live feeder is one of the sweetest snakes I own. If one of mine grabbed on to me I would pour a little listerine on their nose. According to snakebytes tv that works every time.

That is fantastic. None of mine have every really tried to eat me, but I saw a friend's rosy boa once decided to latch onto his ear at a party once. And then held on for a good 20 minutes. It was awesome.

I herd a couple drops of alcohol or putting them under warm water helps them let go anyone else have any success with these methods?
