    mouse grow out tubs
    Ok guys...
Need to build a new grow out rack for my mice. Currently, I have two racks made with the jumbo petmate litter pans. I'm sick of these, they don't hold enough mice. I'm always needing more grow out space...
I've looked all over for larger pans that are shallow enough for mice, but I can't find anything good...
Anybody using something else that I'm overlooking?
I tried sticking them in my rat cement tubs, and that works, but there are always several that don't get to the water valves and die off.

I had the same problem. I was told that if the mice get thirsty enough they will jump up and hang upside down on the screen to reach the water valve. I wasn't crazy about that idea.

I put a ramekin in each tub that they can climb on and reach the valve. You'll have to find one tall enough for them. I do the same for my ASF's.

Yeah, I'm not crazy about the idea of having a ceramic bowl upside in each bin. I wish they made a cement tub that was 2" shorter...
The mice do jump up and drink, but there are always several that just don't do it. Since I'm building a new rack anyway, I was hoping just to find a new sized tub as well...

What about just adding more bedding?

They move shavings around, and it'll cost too much. We're talking a rack with a minimum of 30 tubs...
About the only tub I can find that's around 5" deep is the ARS 30 series, but they're $14 each before shipping.

I am in the same boat. I am building a combination mouse/rat breeding rack and wanted tubs the same size except for depth. A member on another forum I am on told me about this place: www.webstaurantstore.com.

The sell a bus tub that is 20x15x5. If you go to the site and click on the bus tub/box tab it will take you to what's available.

The above 5" deep one is actually just like the ARS 30, in fact that is a bus tub made by Table Craft!! They sell them in different colors, but the grey one in lots of 12 are only $3.10 each!!

They also sell a tub that is 21x15x7 which is good for rats. So I will be placing an order for my mouse and rat tubs shortly.

    Hope this helps ya out.

You could also take your left over hardware cloth and make little platforms for them to stand on. If you make them wide enough the mice won't be able to tip or move them. It works for me.

Wow, if you get the black ones, they are only $2.63 each in bulk! What a deal....

Have you gotten any of these yet? Wondering how stout they are.
Funny thing is, I've been to that site, and about a gazillion others looking for a good bus tub, but never ran across that particular one!

    Thanks man, I appreciate it!

I have not gotten any myself. Someone on another forum got the black 7" deep ones for his rat rack and said they were great. The 5" deep one must be pretty steardy as they are used for carrying dirty dishes.

Doskocil 22701 LG Cat Litter Pan
    20-1/4'' x 13-5/8'' x 3-1/2''

This is also known as the Petmate Value Line litter pan.

It is really a perfect size for mice. Its about 30% larger than a 10 gallon tank in floor space and its 3.5" tall which is perfect for mice.

Yeah Tom, that's what I'm using now, I just need a bigger tub, that's still shallow. I'm sick of only being able to put 30-40 mice in the tub, and having to clean them every 3-4 days...
I found this on YouTube, contacted the guy, but haven't heard back from him yet on where he got the tubs. His comments state that he got them at a restaurant supply, but I haven't had any luck finding anything at all similar. Those are exactly what I'm looking for!!

You can google it and click the thing on the left that says "shopping" to find a good deal, but this place has free shipping.

    http://www.lnt.com/product/litter-pa...d-colors-.html

You can also check out local pet stores to see if anyone can order them or get them for you and you might be able to avoid the shipping.

They're about 4" wider than the Freedom Breeder or ARS mouse tubs for much less money.

I finally found the big tubs...
Made by a company called Carlisle

    http://catalog.carlislefsp.com/stora...1/1064002.html

Now, I'm on the hunt to find a good deal on them. So far, they're looking to be around $13 each.

Wow! They have an 18" x 12" x 3.5" tub as well which would be awesome for breeding mice or for rat birthing tubs. I might even start making mouse breeding racks out of these. It looks like I could pick them up in Philadelphia which is literally less than half an hour from me. Sweet!
