    Pastel or a nice normal?
This snake was given to me as a pastel but, I am beginning to think it's just a nice normal.

    What do you guys think?

If it has brown eyes, then it is a normal. Still pretty.

I was thinking normal! But kinda looks like a pastel. How old is he? You know his weight?

She was hatched last summer in August I think. She refused all food and had to be assist fed for the first 8 weeks I owned her. Now she eats f/t mice on her own and is finally putting on a little weight. I think she is close to 200 grams.

She was supposed to be a pastel but, her blushing is so minimal I'm just not sure.

Well, if her eyes are not green, she can't be a pastel. I can see her eye stripe runs through the top of her eye and makes it look lighter, but if they are brown she's just a normal.

A pretty normal, but still a normal. Pastels do have varying amounts of blushing, but the eyes don't lie.

Definitely looks pastel to me, and I doubt the camera made his eyes green if they are actually brown....

    What about belly shots?

    Hmmm,

That kind of looks like a normal to me - any chance of a belly pic? ( heh - just noticed LGray23 already asked for these )

Bear in mind I suck at these kinds of threads.

Huh, I'm on the fence-at least with those pics. It does seem to have a lot more yellow than normals do. Definitely take a pic of the belly and with a normal for comparison if you can. I don't like going by eye color because it's not always easy to tell the eye color. I have a pastel that looks like he has brown eyes unless you really look.

Okay, I got some shots of her head and belly outside in full sun.

I'm still not sure what to think.

Indoors she looks more like a very nice normal to me.
When I bring her outside in the sun she appears pastel.

I wouldn't worry about blushing. My pastel male has almost no blushing, because of his crazy pattern. It just makes them more unique!

I think my snake looks a lot like yours - minimal blushing and lots of brown.
I guess she really is a pastel after all.

How could this have possibly gotten harder.... I swear I see green eyes. That second pic in the sun looks pretty darn green to me. The belly is what's holding me up. The tracks make me wonder just a bit. But the eyes.... She could be a browned out pastel... I can't believe what a debate there is about that girl! Usually it's normal or pastel hands down and very few people disagree. I give up, breed her! ;)

Stephanie - I have normals that have green eyes. Green eyes don't automatically = pastel.

With so many different opinions on what this snake is, I think only time will tell us the true answer. I will have to breed her out.

She is a long way from 1500 grams. Is it possible she could make that weight by December 2011?

I'm about 1000% percent sure you have a Pastel, hands down, no questions asked. I'm sorry but all of you guys who think it looks like a Normal need to go get your eyes checked...

I'm still not positive either way.

I've seen really yellow normals before that looked remarkably like her, but I've also seen some pastels, what I consider low quality, that look like her.

The only hesitation I have is most low quality pastels at her age have a lot of orange to them, I don't think I've seen a browned out pastel her size that had no orange. That is another thing that makes me lean more towards normal. For her markings to be that browned out I mean, she should have more of an orange base color to her markings, not yellow. If she were bigger and older I'd say browned out pastel, but as young and small as she is, I just don't remember seeing a pastel that brown that didn't also carry the orange color to the markings.

I guess you'll just have to wait and see how she grows. Perhaps as she gets bigger, she'll change and make it easier to tell.

I'd bet money she's a pastel. Low quality (please don't take that wrong) but I see yellow creeping up her sides, green eyes and a white nose.

Re: Pastel or a nice normal?
Definitely a pastel, but I agree its a low end one.

With nice normals, you see orange or gold coming up the sides but never the yellow this girl has.
