    PetCo= TOTAL RIPOFF!!
I was running low on frozens so I thought I'd stop by petco and use a giftcard I got to get some frozens. I go to their freezer and its 6 FREAKING DOLLARS for ONE PINKY! I mean WTH!!!!!!! I couldn't believe it. And these TINY pinkies come in these HUGE packages that look like 40 of them could fit in. Its 'Gourmet Rodent" just btw.

And their reptile supplies section really sucks too.

Hopefully the pinky was piced wrong. A live mouse costs 2.99 at the Petco near me.

The Petco near me also has a great reptile section. IMO

Reptile sections in pet stores are like metal sections in record stores:

Some of them are really good, but they are quite often overlooked or underdeveloped. That's my observation anyways :P

The one here absolutley sucks. The animals look good and healthy..but their selection is horrible.

Huge ripoff. I pay about $1 for a pinky feeder from Twin Cities Reptiles, and it's a bit of a ripoff, but since I only have one snake feeding on 'em right now it's not worth it to place an order with my usual online sources. I haven't had luck finding a direct non-retail source here in Minnesota.

For $6 each, I'd just buy a couple live ones and breed them for a couple months and freeze the offspring.

I just had to run up now there is nothing within an 1 hour 20 inutes away. I paid $3 and change for three. I have to admit I like the petsmart the are in a box bagged up seperate. I am just getting myself used to buying them from a reptile store in larger numbers.

Our petco has 'arctic mice' priced pretty decent, not quite rodentpro cheap but not as bad as a live mouse.. Only issue is they are generally pretty gross and sort of rotted lookin :(

Plus husbands barely ever make mistakes so when that mistake happens once in a great while it should be okay :D

Holy cow, that is insane! The prices for gourmet rodent at our pet shop aren't that high, but they are still pretty crazy. They have signs all over their store to buy frozen for your reptiles rather than live, but 1 frozen rodent costs more than 1 live one, how does that make sense! I've had a chit chat about that with them, but they don't always like what I have to say. At least not the sensitive ones! lol

The Petco's in my town sell small "gourmet rodent" brand rats in a 3 pack for roughly $13.00
it's ridiculous. Pinky mice are about 3 dollars each or so.

Those prices are insane, I can buy a medium sized rat for about 3.50 from the place near me and adult mouse for a dollar, ends up costing me about $25 a month. At least it's cheaper then feeding the dog haha.

So glad I breed my own. Our local pet store really is not that bad, but after I had aquired more than 6 bps, I quickly realized that I needed to start breeding my own stock to cut my expenses. Now, my collection is a lot bigger. I have figured it out, and I save roughly $3000 a year by breeding the rats/mice. Definantly the best thing I have ever done.

You want to talk about crazy rodent pricing.... Petstores
In my area 1 rat any size 8.00. WTF!
1 mouse any size 4.50 holy hell

That is why ever since I've had more than 1 snake I've gone through a private breeder
    $1 mice
    $2 rats. Hell ya
This year I started breeding my own small colony

This is exactly why I have started a rat colony..don't have any babies yet (the rats look like their about to explode..so I'm guessing babies are coming soon). Prices on feeders are INSANE in my area.

Ouch. The Petsmart down the road from me has packs of 8 - 4 mice and 4 - 2 rats (depending on size) for $12 a box. It's not great prices, but it's manageable. But I did just grab a bag of 25 rats from the expo, so I should be alright for a while. XD

Find a local breeder in the area. I supply about 10 ppl their mice a week $.50 each no matter what size live or frozen.

Search CL and other sites to find someone who dont have a markup due to retail and employees
