    Looking for a new thermostat
My current thermostat is pretty old and im looking to upgrade.
I tried searching on amazon and google for a digital reptile thermostat but havnt really found anything that looks good. I really dont know off the top of my head what brand my current one is actually.
Can anyone give me some suggestions on what you would reccomend?

What price range are you looking at?

After using Helix, Johnson, and Ranco I am now using strictly Herpstat stats. I got one with a rack when I bought some snakes and soon after that replaced all my stats with herpstats.

Personally I am really liking my VE and they are getting great reviews:gj::gj:

    Reptile Basics

Reptile Basics carries a couple different ones but the best question is, How much do you want to spend?

I just bought a quartet of snakes including a pied and 3 het for pieds...
I think I can invest some good money in a good thermostat, these snake will get the best! :P

So ya my price range is anything really...
I was given the one i have from a previous snake owner so I dont really even know how much they cost.

Ill check out the ones you guys suggested! Thanks!

    Hey there,

A thermostat is a important component of any Ball Pythons habitat, that's great you are looking to upgrade.

I recommend a proportional thermostat. You can read about the difference between on/off and proportional thermostats here:http://www.reptilebasics.com/thermostat_faq

My personal recommendation would be Reptile Basics Vivarium series of thermostats: http://www.reptilebasics.com/thermostats

    or

Herpstats - I own a Herpstat and a Herpstat ND and I love them both. It doesn't get much better than Herpstat:http://spyderrobotics.com/index.html

I haven't used the VE ones from RBI yet, but i must say they look the best and from what i hear from a few friends they are REALLY into them...

+ it comes from Rich, Anything from Rich i would trust

Grab a Herpstat, you can get a really great one for around or under $300, or their basic for about $100.

I love my Helix :gj: I just got my first Ranco today for my GTP. So far I like it and it's not hard to wire yourself, but it's not a proportional thermostat.

I'm waiting on my vivarium electronics ve 300. My buddy likes his herpstat tho. Either way you can't go wrong with any of the above said stats. All depends on which one you prefer. Good luck on the choice!! I had a hard decision choosing, but after reading how people loved the vivarium electronics, I figured it was worth a shot trying it out.

I've only used Helix and VE so far, and the design of Rich's VE tstat is superior by far. Since they're pretty much priced the same I will never buy another Helix.

My personal fav is the Herpstat, but I use a Johnsons for my quarantine cages. I've also heard great reviews on the VE from RBI, but I have not personally used it.

Can someone explain the difference between VE-100, VE-200 and VE-300 models? There's a reptile expo on Sunday and I might pick one up.

Agreed!! I have every version in the collection and can say that even the on/off Hobbystat has been great on my back heated baby racks.. I even use the VE 300x2 on my incubator and a few of my adult racks, I was a real big Helix user and still have about 6/8 of them I use but when I'm buying a new thermostat I buy the VE..

I am glad to hear good things about the new Hobbystat; I have been unable to find any feedback really on it from people who have used it. If you could write a review with its temp accuracy and such then perhaps everyone would love you forever... [emoji12]
